300tdi rebuild, sell whole or brake up and sell??

hey all,

well my 300 tdi spun a conrod/crank shaft bearing.

it was going to need to be rebuilt so i decided to put a different engine in.

so now i have a complete 300tdi.

do i sell as is, brake up and sell or rebuild and try and get more????

Breaking it up or re-building it you'll have to factor in the time taken. ie. how much are you worth, and will you get the $ back ?

Your head is fairly young, isn't it ? Could be worth your while just parting it out .

Naa, no saw yet. No ba$tard is paying their bills ATM.....

Maybe I need to buy a new saw and visit customers with it to hurry them along... :twisted:

no i dont have a 357 xp......(i would have one though, but got others i want before it, solo 681 is a screamer)

More saw talk :D

I wish my customers would pay their friggin accounts, a new Dolmar PS6400 (in Makita livery) was passed in on fleabay for $600 a couple of days ago and it was a dealer lower down the valley here......... :x

I'm currently using a mates old Stihl 032AV which is in beautiful condition for the age and is surprisingly grunty for a 52cc saw.

Bugger - maybe time for a friendly reminder???

I met an amateur woorworker and sawmiller (has a home sawmill!) last night. He has a stihl 076 - didn't even know the model existed. 111cc !!! 3'-4' bar!!!!!!!!!

I knew about the 066 and 088, my uncle is a farmer and has owned both (as well as smaller saws). Just have never heard of the 076 (or the 090!!!).

EGT pre turbo (on any vehicle) should be around 750 max (if you want it to last). Post turbo, about 200-250 less, but it is difficult to calculate exactly.

ok so where should i put the sensor to get an acurate reading?

any clues on the water temp?

ps stihl also made an 090G which was a gear drive model, it had a reduction drive before the sprocket... slow but some toque hey :)

Stock fuel pump on a 300Tdi runs at 620-625* max. pre turbo.
I limit mine to 720*, but it's seen 740 a couple of times. Last few oil tests are showing a few 'issues' so I'm trying to determine if it's excessive EGT's or fuel or something else ATM.

Water t'stat starts to open at 87*, and mine usually runs at 92* except when climbing, (sits around 95-96* then) and the hottest it's risen to is 104*.

There's a 100+cc Oleo-Mac on ebay ATM too.

I'll have to have a look at the neighbours Stihl tomorrow, it's got around a 3' bar ATM.

rick, where is a good spot to put the get sensor?

the stihl could be a number of saws but if its moden it will be 066/660 or old could be 056av 076av 084 088 090.... oleo mac are ment to be pretty good saws too.

the 300 was a piece of p!$$ as you drill and tap the EGR blanking plate.

If you can drill and tap the new manifold somewhere where it gets the flow from all four cylinders would be ideal, otherwise if mounting downstream, within 150mm of the turbo on the dump pipe, but as Ben said the numbers you get from a downstream location are a bit rubbery.

Ian Petersen (Thermoguard) has measured almost 200*C difference between upstream and downstream on his 300Tdi. The downstream measuring was done on the outlet elbow, too.
