exedy safari tuuf clutch

just about to buy a new clutch

was told the diesel one is the way to go

my local parts shop rang exedy they said not a good idea

he rang them 1 day later and a diffferent person said they are the same part number

just searched the exedy web site the part number is 1 number different

just after a soloution as i only want to do this once

the diesels hav a bigger fly wheel then the pety so u will hav 2 get the right one bud i hav 1 in my patrol diesel n i cnt fault it

I've got a diesel TD-42T Exedy Safari Tuff in my Petrol TB45 so if there is a difference it's not much.

I got a TD42 Safari Tuff in my 1983 MQ, bolted up to the stock SD33T flywheel. ;)

diesel will fit petrol and visa versa. Gu will also go on GQ as long as all the motors are 4.2.

The spare parts bloke from exedy obviously thought it was too hard, if he had the statistics in front if him he would find the differences are the diesel clutch kit has a far more clamping pressure and also has better dampening springs in the clutch plate itself. i have fitted many diesel clutch kits to my petrols and never had an issue.

they may have changed them now to be all the same but last time i checked the info above was accurate.

all that matters is spline count on tranny and diameter of flywheel. As I said I have one in front of the MQ 5spd. The Safari clutch we used is for a 99-or newer TD42. Spline count is the same for the old MQ and the newer GQ/GU, SD33 to TD42 doesn't matter....tranny spline count is what matters. Used the larger SD33T flywheel and done deal.

And remember to check your rear main seal for leaks and housing for cracks, if you need either use genuine as i have found that the aftermarket seals leak in recent times fairly quickly. rear main i thinkn was around $50. these are the sorts of jobs you only want to do once cause its a shit of a job on your own. :D

I know one thing for sure - when i did the clutch in my first Safari (fitted a heavy duty unit) the place sold me a clutch for a petrol, after the local Nissan dealership fitted the new clutch for me..i drove away and it was too noisy and it was obvious something was wrong. The Nissan mechanic said "well - if we take it back out and everything is ok it will cost you another $500 labour...."GREAT"...it wasn't right so out it came - I got a phone call from Nissan asking where i got the clutch kit, i told them and Nissan went overboard by taking the clutch back to the supplier who straight away said "this is a a clutch for a petrol"...BINGO...the supplier exchanged the clutch for a diesel (still heavy duty) and copped a bill from Nissan for $500.

So does the deisel clutch fit the tb42e motor as l read it has a bit more clamping force,,,as l am changing my clutch over the long weekend (spewin can't go away) so any advise is appreciated.

according to an above post its right i just put a petrol safari clutch in and its great havent done heaps of kms yet prob done about 5000

also as above do the rear main seal and housing its cheap to do while ya there

The diesel 4.2 clutch has stronger dampening springs to soften up the vibrations.
