hj75 gearbox into hzj

It looks like im up for a gearbox rebuild on my hzj75 troopy and have been offered another box from a hj75 for free.What i would like to know is can the hj box be fitted to my hzj.

Ok thanks for that i was told that if you run the hj clutch it would work but he wasnt 100% sure

T94, get the freeby then if it doesnt fit swap it for sumthing that does.. or if it does fit do a swap thread on here and enlighten us all.... :cool: :cool:

yes it will fit

change bellhousings
run the 1hz clutch but the 2h pressure plate
you will have to machine a spacer to run where the spigot bearing goes to take the input shaft as the early box has a shorter shaft from memory 15mm

they do fit i have done the swap, just measure the shafts and that will give u a indication of the spacer that has to be made

well if your going to that extreme anything will fit.
your better of getting yours rebuilt, get your freebie and sell it for 600 and put that towards the rebuild.

I will be pulling my box out soon then i will compare the 2 but machining up a spacer wont be a problem.I planned on replacing the clutch while the box was out anyway.Just wondering are the ratios of the 2 boxes the same?

The ratios are the same to fit the 2H/3F box i machined the bellhousing ( from memory 10mm off the engine block side and 5mm off the gearbox side ) with a 2H clutch plate and off it went. The 2H/3F boxes are much better ( the gear form and heat treatment was better ) and they last much longer.

I was driving the troopy out to a mates workshop to pull the box out and the noise slowly got louder and could be heard in all 5 gears so it turned out that i had a collapsed pinion bearing in the rear diff.Id like to thank those for their advice and an apology for the misdiagnosis
