Front axle upgrade : GU front or 80 series + longfields

Post by Mario »

Plan to upgrade in order to avoid breaking CVs on the trail. Depending on decision I'll buy front locker. What would be best ? GU stock front or 80 series with Longfields ?

I just noticed, you have a shimmed lsd front,........best to put an arb in the front with the GU housing so you can choose to turn it off to avoid breakages. It all costs $$$, but thats the solution.

an 80 front centre is the same size as a hilux rear diff, i blew two with a 22R......go the GU, if your looking for the biggest brakes, 4800 patrol's have the biggest but you'll need 16's to clear the brakes.

GU/GQ pumpkin spliced into a 80/100 series housing so that you can use the bigger CW&P AND the Longfields.

Contact JOHNZ on this forum about his. (His went into his 100 series but the guy who did it could do any custom set up, I would think.) This is by far the strongest upgrade for a Nissan. Far stronger than using a standard GU.

You'll have some issues with the LC80 axle in a GQ if you're not planning on custom radius arms wont ya?

You know...with the whole rear tierod being above the radius arms rather than below.

The LC80 might have the better axles and CV's available to it at the moment but development for the GQ and GU fronts isn't unheard of. http://www.patrol4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24789

Worth a thought.
