alt problems

Post by Bagdad mafia »

Hi all, i have just replaced my alternator in my 1uz powered hilux with a camry 70 amp alternator. my problem now is there seems to be to much load on the alternator and causing the 5 rib drive belt to squeel and destroy itself after replacing the belt i started it up again and pulled the plug from the back of the alternator and the squeeling stopped.

What could be my problem ?

just how tight did you make the belt? I would expect significant load on any alternator after start-up, enough to create slippage if the belt isnt tight enough. Made sure that there are no oils or other contaminants on the belt or pulley?

Have you checked output from the alt to make sure that its working? (ie wiring isnt mixed up)
