97 GQ PatroTD42 missing/spluttering under load above 2000rpm

Post by fishtail »

Our 97 Patrol (non turbo) has started missing and spluttering under load. This can start when under acceleration, and when the revs are 2000+. It is also happening when cruising at 2000+ rpm.
This seems to be getting worse.
Any thought? All input gratefully accepted.
Also can someone recommend a good diesel mechanic in the Osborne Park area in Perth.

Thanks
Steve

Check if there is gauze filter under the banjo bolt where the fuel line bolts to the pump. They block up.

check main filter is tight as well. air leak into fuel through filter and rubber lines if cracked. my old pump used to run out of pressure as well, non turbo, used an inline elec pump to fix it for $80.good luck.
only the first roll hurts, then its a ride..

Had the same problem last year.
I found water in the fuel filter. Bled that off and gave the injectors a birthday. Replaced the air filter.
Don't know which one worked, but I haven't had a problem since, and that was 10 months ago.
My turbo wasn't in my truck back then so that doesn't factor into it.
