Unusual Noise

Post by awbeattie381 »

My paj has started developing a noise similar to that of a stick or twig being caught in the spokes of a wheel. It doesnt make the noise when coasting, only when taking it easy at low revs in third or second, sometimes when in fourth.

Any ideas? Im going to check the oil this arvo as its blowing a bit during idle. surely it cant be from low oil levels but thats my last resort. i only just topped the oil up last weekend and havent been far since.

it sounds like a twig caught in the spokes and when i firt heard the noise i stopped to pull it out but couldnt find one. And it doesnt appear to do it when coasting.

What is the lash adjustor??

dont know, i was thinking drivetrain. its like when you accelerate slightly in thrid, the movement of the engine pushes something into the spokes or something spinning anyway. :?

Zip tie on the drive shaft? We used to do that to drive people nuts.

Check the Shroud that comes off the back of the gearbox and covers the front uni joint on the tailshaft. Mine came loose a while back and produced the same noise I think you guys may be talking about but only under braking and acceleration.

Grab it with your hands and try to move it up and down or side to side. Mine moved easily and was scraping the tailshaft at certain angles. Tap it back towards the gearbox and make sure it is not on an angle.

Hope this helps.

err ... that tab is the warning for when your brake pads are low. Instead of breaking it off, try replacing you pads. Prob the wiser option ...

As for the tick noise, I vote for the lash adjusters too, they're shocking things in the Mitsu engines ...

thanks for that. the problems is intermittent at the moment. Sometimes is there and quite loud and sometimes its not.

Is there any way a moving part could be hitting any of the bash plates? and it comes and goes depending on the latest bash plate hit or is it coincidental?
