Vit motor expert Plz
Vit motor expert Plz
After having a look around my new project (SJ50), and taking it for a bit of a drive the motor is spluttering a bit.
I have a few questions... but first some details.
It has a G1.6B motor block.
It also apprently has a 1.3 sieera carby on it, which I assume is the problem with it spluttering.
When the motor gets warmed up it sends out light smoke out the exhuast, I assume it is to do with the carby.
Suzisport Lawton performed the work on it about 3000kms ago according to the reciepts.
I have another carby here which looks different to the 1.3. It could be a vitara. The carby has a throttle possition sensor on it. See pics.
Ok now for the questions.
a) Is this motor a vitara motor?
b) Is the G16B motor ideal for an EFI conversion?
c) Does it have the Vitara head on it?
d) What is the Carby (pictured)?
e) Can that Carby bolt stratight onto the motor I have?
f) Is that carby suitable for an EFI conversion?
What else needs to be done for EFI conversion. eg Computer/injection setup etc?
Any help greatly appreciated

what appears to be on the car is not a sierra carby, and what you have in you're hands is a vitara carby which is the ideal carby to run if not running efi.

I was under the impression that 8V carby 1.6's were G16A while 16V EFI 1.6's were G16B. I guess that its a 16V block thats had a 8V head put on. maybe a reco at some point and any available block has been used,Toecutta wrote:Yea the whole thing looks vit to me
For an EFI conversion (MPFI anyway) you will need to swap to a 16V head that has the injector cut-outs.
Otherwise look for a TBI setup to put on.
re- your Q(f) carb goes byebye for any efi conversion anyway.
Got the low down on it today from Graham at Suzi-Auto at springwood Qld.
Its a G16B block, 1.3 head and 1.3 Carb, good combo apparently. The carb I am holding is a VIT one, no good for me so it will find its way up for sale soon.
cheers for the replies guys.

automotive design engineers get paid alot of money to work this stuff out,if its a 1.6 8v head off a vitara, then i would imagine that the most suitable carby for power and fuel economy would be "HOLD BREATH" the standard vit carby, which just happens to be the very same one you have in your hot little hand!! You will get a bit more power out of a webber or similar,as long as you stick to the tar, they are crap off road without major mods.
I have an injection manifold from a g16b but no headfor it to go on,this is completly differant from the g16a config, inlet ports are a different shape..

Whats the easiest way to tell if I have the 1.6 head or 1.3 head? I believed I had the 1.3 head. Should I pull the rocker cover off? what will I be looking for?
cheers
Oh and yer I will have a go at the wiring the vit one in if I do actually have a Vit head

The head was my spare I had rebuilt, I had the mainfold and head port matched, I kept the 1.6 carb for it's better offroad manners and it was recently rebuilt with a new choke.
It all bolts up.
