22re (efi) is supposed to be a reasonable motor
or a 3TGUE (1.8 twin cam ulp efi)

hey mate i put a 22re in my 4runner. it'll bolt straight up to a G52 or equivalent gearbox. they certainly have a lot more kick than the 22r's. I'm going to turbo mine soon as u can never have too much power. lol. If you have the money i recommend going straight to a V8, but if your on a budget like me, sticking a 22re in there is easy as piss. All u have to do is move engine mounts (simply bolt on/bolt off they are the same just in different positions on the engine in a celica), sumps, oil pickups i think that's about it trying to remember it all. lol. anyways its not hard at all, only about 4 wires u have to wire into the dash from the ECU and away you go. That being said i snapped a conrod in my first 22re, but it had done a fair few k's....

hope that kinda helps...

4 wires hey shnoz, theres more to it than that, it's still easy though, gotta change over the altinator, gotta wire up your gauges, then a couple of wires from the igniter to the ecu then 3 wires u gotta run from ecu to ign, start and batt+. its a piece of piss really just a pain pulling dash parts off to get to shit and mounting the ecu n shit. well if ya go with it ill send ya some instructions if ya want
