Power steering fluid is hydraulic fluid.

No suing me if you murder your car though.

havent had much to do with 4x4 hydro steering setups but i work in industrial hydraulic services & were constantly getting steering cylinders off all kinds of applications in, which r farked from power steer fluid / auto trannie oil. it will chew out seals HEAPS quicker & isnt ideal. i wouldnt use it !!
but like i said i havent had much to do with 4x4 setups

If The unit is new , I don;t think it will make much difference to relaibility
Imay or may not make it lighter--- But if the unit has had a perticular fliud run in it previously you may cause seal problems by changing fliud type, All depends on the material the seals are made from .
