hey guys
this is my first post. i got a gq with the rb30 in it about a month ago. i've been going through a fair bit of mud and water. since then the alternator has s**t itself. i was wondering if it might be because of mud jamed in the bushes? the other thing im trying to find out is would a vl or r31 fit on it as im having trouble finding a gq one from a wreckers.
any info would be great
cheers corey

gq rb30 alternator question
Moderator: -Scott-
prob just mud . you could try washing it out but prob wont work now. lol. a VL alt fits but you have to modify the alt housing to fit snug. i did this a couple of times. now i have a falcon alt in took heaps of grinding to make it fit. good luck.

Where is it? On my MU (yes I once owned a MU ) I relocated the alternator up high as the stock location was right down low and it caught a lot more crap that way. It never got clogged up again after that.
From ebay, this is what a VL one looks like:
If it looks the same you're probably in luck.
By the way the black box at the rear end of it holds the brushes and regulator and is removable with two screws, you might as well take that off and clean up inside, check brushes, and see if it works again afterwards.
