Air tank pressure

Hi,

What tank pressure is usually used in trucks? I have an approx 10 litre truck air tank but no rating on it, second hand so no idea of age. It's welded (longitudinally) so not seamless which will de-rate it. I can make some assumptions but am trying to get a better idea. I've no idea what range of air pressures are, or have been used in trucks.

Mine has a pressure switch which automatically cuts out at 150 psi.

Most trucks run pressures between 8 & 12 bar so the tanks are fairly capable. In my 40 years working on heavy vehicles I have not known of a tank failing unless they were rusted through.
I have just "acquired" 2 tanks from a Volvo bus & will be fitting one as soon as I get my compressor built.

can probably get away with 150psi. but you shouldn't need to go any more than 100psi. you should have a pressure switch on your compressor (off at 100, on at 70) you should also have a pressure relief valve in the tank, all pressure vessels should have one. If your pressure switch is set for off at 100psi then you'd set your pressure relief valve to between 110-120 psi.

Make sure it's not a vacuum tank... They wont handle pressure.
