Steering Dampner Removal

I am trying to remove the dampner from my 75 and the service manual says "Tighten centre bolt with special tool to force stud from taper in draglink"

Do they mean like a tie rod remover so it "pops" the dampners bolt out of the taper??

I gave the bolt a gentle tap and then a not so gentle tap and it did not budge at all.

if its a taper fit you will need either a puller or splitter

tie rod tools do work most of the time

Flog it a bit harder.

They take a bit to get them to come loose of the taper.

Same as a tierod end.

I replaced the steering damper on my lux not so long ago, sprayed it(drenched it) with WD40 a couple of times a day, for a couple of days before I did it, and then bashed the crap out of the threaded part to get it out.
It was the factory item put on way way back in 1986.
This technique worked great.

Heat will do it, no need to beat things unnecessarily.
I have a small gas torch bought from the local hardware cost me $30 great tool.

Hold one hammer against the side of the tapered eye thingo, and give the other side a sharp hit with another hammer, should pop out. No need to hit the bolt itself.

you to hit the taper bit (not the bolt) as hard as you can with heavy hammer. You need to shock it lose not bash it repeatedly. Might help if you try to level it out a bit (with big tyre level etc) while you hit it. Also might help if you have a 2nd person. so you can concerntrate on using the hammer!! just don't hit the other person otherwise need a tie rod end puller etc

just get a ball joint removal tool, takes all of a minute to get off

I fit suspension for a living, these are the quickest and easiest way to pop out tight steering dampers.
