How About Tips For Extra Cab Build

Post by johno »

Don't know if this has been done before. But what about a thread with tips & contributions from those who have done the extra cab or dual cab.

I reckon there would be a lot of points that would be helpfull to budding builders

-- measure 100 times only cut once!
-- always allow a bit extra for trimming sheet metal after lining it up!
-- plan in advance on how you want the look!
-- build your own tray (its not that hard) maybe a trip to local tray builders and take some pics if they allow!
-- try sorce your materials for tray same place as tray builders!
-- dont use window out of another ute, prety cheap to cut your desired hole and get machinery glass place to cut fit and stamp new one!
-- use back section and move it forward for nicer factory look!
-- talk to engineer before you start and ask him what he wants i.e baby seat anchor points, bracing etc
-- in most cases for drilling etc buy your own bits and drill etc to save on paying someone else to do it
-- source a good local powder coater and suck up his date for cheap powder coating
-- if some one close to you or reasonably close has already done one go check it out and ask questions in person as to whats involved!

and most importantly (other than keep the missis serviced quite often so as to not get in the shit for the amount of time you will spend on it) MAKE SURE YOU COVER AREAS WHERE YOU ARE GRINDING VERY VERY WELL OR YOU WILL END UP SETTING SHIT ON FIRE!

YES I DID A COUPLE OF TIMES!

oh yeh and also dont wear tracky dacks cause youl catch on fire there aswell (i did) stuffed around 5 pairs and 5 shirts!
and dont wear loose Tshirts either cause its not fun when they catch on fire or worse get stuck into grinder

other than the above suck some piss, grind and weld yah heart out! ;)
