Clutch not working??
Just pulled up home and then went to move further forward and found that all of a sudden my clutch dont work???
Pulled the cover off the bottom and everything is moving and looks to be normal operation when pressed but i cant engage any gears without it grinding??
Any ideas cause im supposed to be at a photoshoot in the morning for 4wd Action Mag!!!
Cheers

Re: Clutch not working??
is it a hydraulic clutch? If so check the reservior if empty it is most likely the slave cylinder
If ignorance is bliss, then why aren't there more happy teenagers?
Re: Clutch not working??
also if the reservior is full it maybe broken fingers on the pressure plate.

Re: Clutch not working??
Na slave is fine, but next diagnosis is the clutch plate seems to be releasing more on one side than the other? Broken fingers cause this?
Id like to know before i pull it all out.

Re: Clutch not working??
Quite possible as if the fingers are broken then when you dpress the clutch not all the pressure on the clutch plate is released and it is if the clutch is not disengaging, had that problem in my commodore. Does the clutch feel any lighter than normal? As That could be another sign that the pressure plate isn't releasing the pressure. But If the slave and master cylinder are fine then you're prolie find it is a problem with the clutch assembly itself

Can't miss a photoshoot though haha.
Who needs a clutch, start it in gear down a hill, shift without the clutch, and stall it at every set of lights.
Same thing happened to a mates Pajero on Bribie last year. Drove the whole way up the beach, stopped for a fish, went to drive off an hour or so later, and there was nothing. Always great parked on the waters edge with the tide coming in. Don't know what the problem was because luckily I didn't have to fix it, but i'll ask him tomorrow what the problem was.

Re: Clutch not working??
I found that when i clutch crapped itself dumping the clutch with a bit of right foot helped. Luck you were in your driveway i was 60km from home when mine gave it in.

Re: Clutch not working??
Ok pulled the box out (on a dirt driveway ) and clutch plate looks farrrked thats for sure, but 2 of the springs in the centre of the plate have fatigued and snapped, one snapped and fell out and the other snapped in 2 places!! The pressure plate looks fine but i suppose its a good idea to just replace it all with a full kit.
Got the Exedy Safari Tuff H/D Clutch kit cost $558 it turns up next week. Linquip recommended this one.
Far out the bloody box is heavy!!

Re: Clutch not working??
and if it doesn't come with a new flywheel it would be best to get the original machined if possibleWozza244 wrote:Ok pulled the box out (on a dirt driveway ) and clutch plate looks farrrked thats for sure, but 2 of the springs in the centre of the plate have fatigued and snapped, one snapped and fell out and the other snapped in 2 places!! Re: Clutch not working??
Clutch kits never come with a new flywheel unless it's a retrofit kit to replace a dual mass setup so a machine of the old one is definately adviseable.Matt_85Lux wrote:and if it doesn't come with a new flywheel it would be best to get the original machined if possibleWozza244 wrote:Ok pulled the box out (on a dirt driveway ) and clutch plate looks farrrked thats for sure, but 2 of the springs in the centre of the plate have fatigued and snapped, one snapped and fell out and the other snapped in 2 places!! The one I got for my SS came with a new flywheel and it isn't/wasn't a daul mass one I just thought it depended on the manufacturer

Re: Clutch not working??
Far out i dont want to go machining it, surely i could get away without? I know its advisable but it does look ok to an untrained eye?

Re: Clutch not working??
As a direct replacement kit? Or as a conversion/upgrade kit? I've never bought a clutch kit for a vehicle that included a flywheel. I'll stand corrected if yours was a direct replacement and change my statement from "never" to "rarely".Matt_85Lux wrote:RAY185 wrote:Clutch kits never come with a new flywheel unless it's a retrofit kit to replace a dual mass setup so a machine of the old one is definately adviseable.Matt_85Lux wrote:and if it doesn't come with a new flywheel it would be best to get the original machined if possibleWozza244 wrote:Ok pulled the box out (on a dirt driveway ) and clutch plate looks farrrked thats for sure, but 2 of the springs in the centre of the plate have fatigued and snapped, one snapped and fell out and the other snapped in 2 places!! Judging by the price quoted above for the Exedy kit I'd say it has no flywheel.
Re: Clutch not working??
Do you really want to be pulling it all off again soon. Its bout 70 bucks to get it machined. Maybe also look at doing your rear main seal and replacing the bearing in there.Wozza244 wrote:Far out i dont want to go machining it, surely i could get away without? Your truck i 1hz. I couldnt get a quote cheaper that 800 for my 4.5lt

Re: Clutch not working??
Ray182 is almost correct with new kits dont come with a flywheel unless its a dual mass conversion the exception being latemodel v8 commodores, the flywheels in those are crap and cant be machined relaibly so exedy supply new flywheels with the kit for those.
