Rolled GU ute
Rolled GU ute
Hi everybody, hope the new year is treating you well.
The weekend before christmas i rolled my TD42T GU Coil Ute.
The insurance company has declared it a repairable write-off. The cab is beyond repair & i'm unsure about the chassis.
The engine and drive line and suspension all appear to be fine.
i would like to transplant all the good parts into another truck as i have:
6" snake lift kit
F&R arb air lockers
4.88 diff ratios
86% crawler gears
as well as bull bar spotlights and winch.
i was looking at a 3L or 2.8L at around $10,000 but im unsure as to how hard the engine and gearbox swap will be, i plan to do as much of the work myself as i can.
Any ideas info or sugestions are much appreciated.

Re: Rolled GU ute
better off buying a 2.8 and swapping the body onto the ute chassis as long as you didnt bend it when you rolled it.
saves swapping the lift, diff, winch, bull bar, motor and box.
the easiest patrol to do the 4.2 conversion would be the 4.5 as you dont have to modify or cut off chassis mounts and weld on the chassis engine mounts from the 4.2. plus if you get a manual 4.5 you can use the gearbox as a spare. 3l gearbox is also the same.
hope that helps, lozz

Re: Rolled GU ute
wanna sell your front seats and console
Re: Rolled GU ute
So the insurance company deemed it a write off
So the car is now the insurance companies and you get the cheque for its write off value
OR
Did you buy the wreck back from the insurance company

Re: Rolled GU ute
Yeah that helps a lot lozz, I'd like to go with a whole new body and chassis as then it's no longer classed as a repaired write-off.
Are there any changes that need to be made to the fuel system when going from petrol to diesel? Apart from a good flush out?
I bought it back from the insurance company, for a hell of a lot less than the mods are worth
I'm glad they didn't know what they were looking at

Re: Rolled GU ute
The fuel lines are bigger on the diesel. I haven't worried about it on my Gu but since you have the lines all ready on the ute you should change the lines and the sender aswell as it might have a bigger pick up. In qld it takes ages to pass a repaired write off so going down that path would take longer aswell so it wouldn't be worth it in the first place.

Re: Rolled GU ute
Sorry to hear about your ute mate, just checked it on eBay and
she was a real nice rig. Just wanted to warn you though, I rolled my gu ute a year ago and decided to cut my losses, worst mistake ever. Here I am a year down the track doing it all over again. Very expensive decision, should of known I couldn't stay away from 4wding. U have put alot of work into it and I would be looking at the idea of putting all your gear into a 3l wagon and then chopping it. Just my thoughts
