Standard Length Springs...How Much Flex???

Post by dano80 »

Hey Guys,

I'm trying to work out how much flex I can get out of standard length springs.

I've got EFS 2 or 3 inch lifted at the moment with Koni adjustables all round, front
flex is ok, back is ordinary even with 2 leaves per side removed, can't remove anymore without
installing a track bar (next on the list)

Anyone got some good pics of how much flex you can get out of standard length springs, much appreciated.
Extended shackles and even 3/4 elliptic setup was my thinking, anyone have any experience with both?

Cheers, Dano

the best thing to do is move your shackle mount forward to improve the shackle angle, short of doing that you are very limited as far as a single shackle is concerned (i have tried to help out the guy down the street) and have got it as good as we can with moving the hanger being the only way to get more droop without a drop shackle etc

alternativeley you could run a drop shackle, but i personally are strongly against them, a buggy leaf (3/4 eliptical) is a slightly better option in some ways but worse in others. if your gonna go to the effort of cutting the hanger off to do a buggy leaf you may aswell relocate it and do it properly .

to get good flex fron stock length springs you need very few leaves, due to the length and lack of vehicle weight, so you will need a trac bar.

Thanks Mate,

So a buggy leaf would be on the cards....

And does anyone know if extended shackles would be of any advantage, my thoughts would be yes.

extended shackles do not always flex better than standard length ones. length of shackle does impact on flex and suspension action, but so does the angle of it. a well set up 100mm shackle can and will flex better than a 150mm shackle poorly setup with the same spring pack.

if you set up your shackle well it is also far more legal than all the other options
