Need to know what you guys upgrade with and which ones are most effective.

Most suzuki conversions involve upgrades to larger engines in the same series.
ie: G13ba(carby) upgrade to G16b(1.6 efi) or G13b(1.3 twincam efi).
m13a to m16a / m18a.
H20a to H25a / H27a.
A few engines from other OEM's have been common over the years.
Ie:
Toyota 4k/5k, Toyota 4age.
ie: G13ba(carby) upgrade to G16b(1.6 efi) or G13b(1.3 twincam efi).

what are the plans for the rig struth?
I run a 20 Valve 4age Toyota injected 1.6 in mine. lot of work to get it right, even alot of work to do a marginal install with compromises. goes really well though!

I would have to say that the 1.6 EFi swap (g16) is about the best value swap.
The carb'd 1.6 swap is easy and can be done but a hammer some sticky tape and a few spanners and provides a very useful boost in power, but for all round driveability the Efi version is a class above.

I've had a 4age powered SWB and have a 4agze and auto in the shed waiting to go into my LWB. If I was to start from scratch I'd probably just go with the g16 mpfi swap. It's been done a million times and has heaps of power for a zook.

As mentioned...you best and cheapest option would be the EFI 1.6L from a Vitara or the rev happy 1.3L twincam from the Suzuki Swift GTi
Both are very simple conversions...pretty much a bolt on job for both
I lookied into putting a 4AGE into my sierra and looked at the fabrication and just how much work it was to get it in and decided against it
Instead went with the GTi conversion. Gearbox will bolt up to the engine and the engine mounts are even the same...plug 6 wires and sort out the dizzy (MK1 engines you can buy a $400 kit that will be a perfect drop or for MK2/3 you can buy a Mazda dizzy to modify it and make it work as they do fuel/spark as oposed to MK1's that only do spark)
Depends how much you want to spend and what terrain you're going to be driving
Just remember....the more power you put through the drive train....the more brakages you will have

Why are you wanting to do an engine swap? What are hoping to achieve? Is the current engine dead?
