Boost measuring point - opinions? (3.3 TD)

Post by totto »

Today i moved the line to the boost gauge from the turbo-to-wastegate line and up to the point where the pressure valve was located before. Got the parts from a plumber, just a matter of replacing the blind plug (pressure valve removed earlier) with a plug drilled and threaded for the fitting to the gauge line.
In my opinion the boost should be measured here, close to the engine, to give a realistic measurement of what boost actually reaches the engine.
It actually reads slightly more here than at the line between the turbo and the wastegate!
Next: Should i also attach the wastegate line to this point? That way i think the turbo would automatically compensate for any loss or gain in the tubes between the turbo and the intake, even if fitting an intercooler with tubes.....
:?: Anyone having thoughts or experience about this?...

Sounds feasible. I measure boost at the manifold on my TD42 turbo.
