Hi-steer Ackerman Angle

Post by beebee »

Of the guys out there running hi-steer, what is the ackerman angle like? Hom much different it is to the standard setup (to the eye)? Do you notice that you suffer from any front wheel skidding more than the original setup?

Be aware that the Ackerman speed is quite low, when the rear tyres travel on a smaller radius than the front. As speed increases to about 40 km/hr the rear tyres will travel on the same radius as the front.

So any before and after comparisons of Ackerman steering are only valid at low speed.

It is generally not practical to achieve true Ackerman steering when the tie-rod is located in front of the axle (the location of the tie-rod ends would foul the wheels).
