Tyres for my Cruiser

Post by Elvis »

Hey Guys,

I'm new here. I've got a 93 Diesel Cruiser. I've currently got 8x16 rims and 275/70R16 Tyres.

I'm looking at upgrading to say 285/75R16's (or possibly 315/75/R16's). Would those tyres be ok on my rim?

Any suggestions or brands or places I can get a good bargain?

Thanks for any help.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I am based in Sydney. I've also got a 3in lift on the truck as well.

Got a 3in lift.

Do daily driving, but very short distant (run my own business which is literally down the road). The occaisional long trip. Want to do more off road, but still a novice in that area.

Budget, well I'm open depending on the equipment.

Was looking at Bridgestone 285/75R16 at around $226 a piece. Most other places I've called quoted me at $270-$280.

Was thinking $315/75R16, but they seem difficult to find and I guess I'd be looking at over $300.

You can run 315's on your rims but you will have to remove the mudflaps/or modify.

Oh and for all you people who say you need 3, 4, 5 inch suspension, or 2 inch body lift or bla bla bla to run 35's, that is BS.

I run 315's I used to have a 6inch suspesion lift. They tore my mudflaps off. After this they were fine.

I now run no lift and 315's withought the flaps and there is no problem on full articulation.

How do the 315's run? Are they ok on the road? I was going for the 285's, but I'm still tempted by the 315's. How much did yours cost and what sort were they?

315's are great for tough off roading, however you will lose about 15 - 20% power due to the extra weight. Will not take of anywhere near as quick as with standard tyres. Also the breaks will not work as well eaither.
I got cooper ST's, about $320 each I think.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I didn't want to go too big, but then again, I didn't want to regret not going the biggest later. It's a tough choice. The 285 would be generally a better tire for me all round, but the 315 just is well, bigger.

After a fair bit of calling around... I can get Bridgstone 285's for about $227. I can get the Goodyear Wrangler 315 for $385. I can get the BF Goodrich 315 for $369. I can get a tire called the Maxis? next month which is 315 for $280. The other 285's are all $270 and up.

I checked the trading post, but no big tires for sale.

I found some maxis mudder tyres at ace tyres in brisbane 285\75\16 for $200 each fitted, (that was a couple of months ago) I don't know how good they are but they look like a decent muddy for the price, I know your in sydney but it might give you something to compare.

I run 285/75 16 Dueler A/T D694s on mine. They are a big improvement over the D693 pattern. For the money and if you want an A/T you can't go past them. Again it's horses for courses.

If you want an aggressive tyre you could try Silverstone MT-117 Sports 285/75-16. will fit straight onto your 16x8 rim and you should get them for around $280 each.

JT2s are a rag tyre are they not ???

You would then have to factor in the cost of replacement rims. Though I think they come in 34x10.5/16 Which should fit an 8"rim ....
