Gen 2 Paj wasn't sold in Australia with an auto behind the diesel. Some grey imports may be around, but I think most of them are pre-Gen2.

The Pajero Club Forum has a thread running with people reporting typical economy - have a bit of a browse here.

Cheers,

Disco S1 with 300Tdi (2.5L).

Mid 7's to about 10L/100 (heavy right foot/all city driving - maybe 0.5L more with an auto).

Don't own one myself but that is what mates with them get.

The fleet manager at my last work said the 75 and 80 series they had averaged about 15-16L/100. However the 80 series that was only ever driven by a leadfoot on trips out west with a full roofrack and overloaded trailer used about 25L/100 (foot flat to the floor the whole way, 4000km round trip). That figure doubled when the same guy got a 100 series gxl petrol for his next truck.

turbo or not? modified or standard? and the most influential criterion is how do you drive?

as a rough guide, my '97 80 DX with no accessories, no suspension lift and stocker tyres did about 11.5 litres/100km, town, highway, you name it. with turbo, there was potential for sub 11 litres/100km on the highway but with the extra power available it was more often 12 - 13. my '96 GXL factory multivalve turbo, in stock trim, did around 11 around town and 11.5 - 12 on the highway. now with 35" tyres, 5" lift it uses about 12.5 town, 13.5 highway. I drive it pretty hard so conservative driving would improve these figures. If I was driving a petrol, I'd expect >20l/100km for my driving style.

If you want an auto diesel, you probably don't want a non turbo, the performance is pretty ordinary.
