Wheel bearings

I'm just changingt the front wheel bearings in my 91 lux. In the box wth the new bearings is what looks like an oil seal with an inside diameter of about 32mm. does anyone know what this is for?
Also, can someone confirm, does the inner bearing race need to be pressed out or can it be removed by the home mechanic (me).

you can tap out the inner bearing race yourself from the other side witha drift
the oil seal goes into the back of the hub infront of the inside bearing from memory

The closest thing the seal will fit over is the axle/cv shaft but it's too big for that. I'm stumped. Unless its a universal bearing kit, and the seal is for another vehicle, its useless, it won't fit anywhere.

do you mean it fits over the spindle that sticks out when you pull the disk and hub off

the seal im talking about is the one that goes over the wheel bearing on the inside

Yeah, the spindle that sticks out, but it doesn't even fit that.
I've got the one in the pic sorted.
I think I'll just forget about that little oil seal, unless someone says otherwise. It just doesn't fit.

ok i think the one you got my be the axle seal that goes inside the knuckle , that seals off the diff housing from the grease in the knuckle around the cv

ah yes, i know what you mean. So i'd have to remove the cv to do that one.

yeah, but if you going to do that you may aswell buy a knuckle rebuild kit and do the kingpin bearings felts and everything else at the same time

Ok, well i'm not familiar with those bits yet and I gotta drive it to work tomorrow, so i'll do those next time.

yeah get a swivel hub seal kit from repco or someone, has all the seals youll need to do the whole job both sides.

If your going to pull it apart might aswell spend a day doing it all properly.

whats that kit worth? i have a feeling my swivel hubs are on the way out.

way didn't you put those prices up last week i just did all mine last weekend and the whole lot cost around $30 more than that through repco

what sort of skill level is required to change your wheel bearings? novice? super duper guru status?

it's a peice of piss last weekend was the first time i had done it and although it took awhile (a day) due to it being the first time as well as i did the swivle hubs . i think next time should only take me a few hours to do both sides. it is just a very mesy job.

Its an easy job, you just got to know how to set the shims up for your swivell bearings. 9 times out of 10 you just use the original ones.
