i got it done and back on its wheels but it is cold and dark out side

Looking good. I'd like to do this some day to my cruiser diff. How did you determine how much can be safely removed before the new plates hit the crown gear?

i put the center in and then tacked the middle plate (if u get your head down on the side u can see through it) i left about 6mm gap (i wanted a bit more oil to fit in the rear diff since it is my daily driver)

i only went about 3mm in the front diff cos it is only used offroad

i replaced the 2 bottom studs with bolts so i just pull them to drain oil :)

Just a tip peoples.....

After a couple of years using your bottom two bolts as drain plugs, you'll find that you'll begin to strip the thread from the housing and the diff will constantly weep. I ended up putting in some helicoils to restore the threads and they're much better now. Next diff I do, I'll throw the helicoils in from the start.

1 inch clearance gain is still quite a bit. It's like going from a 35" tyre to a 37".
