More power from the 4Y 2.2litre....
hey guys,
I just recently purchased a 1987 Hilux 4runner with the 4Y 2.2litre petrol motor..It already has Extractors, unifilter,But was wondering just how much power can be made fom these motors without spending lotsa $$$ on them..And have the 4Y motors always been heavy on fuel..Seeing that they are only a 4cylinder motor..
cheers

Power from a 4Y
If you want power, get away from the 4Y. I have a 3Y and it is quite thirsty, but I am running 33"s and 4.88's. Best bet for power and eccono go to a V6 efi or possibly 22R if you dont want the reg and insurance cost of the V6. These will fit with reasonable work.
I have an 86 4Runner with a 4Y running 32" tyres (stock 4.88's) and i don't find it to be all that heavy on fuel, around 12-13L/100km, and it honestly needs a new set of points and plugs and a tune. But that really is dependant on what you call heavy fuel usage. But i also get told i drive like a grandma aswell.

well your tank should hold around 65 for single and dual cabs and 73 ltrs of fuel for the xtra cabs and you should be getting a lot more then 80kms off a tank sounds like your fuel gauge isnt working properly if your only putting 30 ltrs in it if that is your problemTOY4RUNA wrote:approx..20k's a day...approx 30 litres
