MQ/MK Disk brake rear??
MQ/MK Disk brake rear??
Is there anyway to fit disks to the rear of an MQ/MK ???, has anyone here done it or heard of it being done? and what would be involved,

Yeh peter did a very good job on his conversion. it is a simple conversion ill get to it one day..... but the only reason i havent done it is if i start breaking huge amounts of diff internals its diff swap time rather tahn disk brake rear...

Yep real easy!! But I think I may have got lucky with my combination. I didnt have to do anything with my master cyl and the rear bias is spot on. Its been in now for a couple of months and I drive 40 kays to and from work every day with lots of steep up and down hill. Absolutely no problems or over heating. See how it was done in MEMBERS Frankenstine (still modding) I think I have a profile of the caliper mounting bkt somewhere

NO!!
The caliper piston is to big.. You will have a very poor pedal and to much messing around getting bias right. you would end up having to change it anyway so don't go there

It's all good, I have bought all the mechanicals from a VX commodore, motor, auto, all wiring computer, exhaust, everything i need for the patrol, so they chucked the rear disks and calipers in with the deal, so we will get them fitted up, would it be possible to make up the backing, plate that you cut from the old backing plate to include the caliper braket, so then the caliper bracket wont have to be welded to the diff, thus eliminating the engineerings report???

I would say no. I would think the material would be to thin. 78 scout 392ci V8 LPG, 727 TF, dana 20, dana 44 locked and loaded, 9" rear Diff. 10inch lift'n'so on
backing plate
The backing plate and shims set the bearing pre-load 10mm would be to thick and you would have to much bearing slop. Why not put longer stubs on the hub and then when the hub bolts on you would have enough length on the inner side to bolt a manufactured caliper mounting plate.Hoppy11 wrote:What if I make a backing plate from 10mm which includes the bracket, or would a 10 mm baking plate be too thick??
