ok time for some boots for the new buggy. I am trying to find someone who can import or get there hands on some comp spec tyres in the 37-40" range.

and no 35" simes are not comp spec tyres.


i am talking about red label Krawlers, 40" bias comp claws, 37" comp creepy-crawlers, 40" comp MTR's . . . . . . .

so far all the tyre outlets are all talk. no-one has even made an effort to find anything even after offering to pay extra.

does anyone know of a tyre mob with some go?

What he is trying to say is that boggers and TSL's will not suffice, even though they are a great tyre. He is wanting something even better (to a factor of 200times better, such as the special competition only tyres which are made in different compounds etc....

i went to tjm to see if they are still renting out there campers and no they dont they are now premium maxxis dealer i love the kreepys how nice are they but they have a new one called bighorn sh@t name but look the goods a little like an MT/R 12ply sidewall it is thick only in 35/12.5/15or 16 i think they make 38 kreepy for 650+ but it would choice for a buggy

Try Procomp in melb, they import heaps of tyres. I noe they can get the 40inch MTR, im pretty sure they creepy crawlers. Can nyone tell me what redlabel krawlers are. Are they different to normal BFG Krawlers.

just a different rubber compound I believe, a lot softer so thhey grip better but tend to wear out quicker. Good for comp use but not a daily driver

thanks guys, i have contacted all of the companies you have mentioned, and as yet none have been able to either give me a firm answer or have nothing they are willing to offer for a reallistic price (i dont have any issue paying upto 1K each for a comp tyre). But these tyres will also be seen on 2 vehicles which compete on average of 15 times a year so a discount for promotional purposes would certainly help. The 37/40's will be shared between Beebee's hilux and our new Moon buggy, so the ever dependable boggers might get replaced soon We recently recieved info on who to contact at BFG in the states regarding the red label crawlers and as we are currently sponsored by AIR-UP(powertank -US) we are able to get shipping sorted quite cheaply, but we thought we would try Australian first as this is a prime advertising opportunity for a local company especially with the likes of PROCOMP (and thier VSP) and Maxis trying to make inroads into the 4wd market. But sadly neither deemed this a worthy project to alot any attention, maybe we should be running a standard vehicle with heaps of stickers

Although there seems to be a new ray of hope, one of OZ's largest offroad tyre importers has contacted us, and i have been told that he might be able to find us something close to what we are looking for!

I suppose thhat is the problem with trying for sponsorship for a still very new type of motorsport. To many it will still be seen as a bit of a nothing type of event with limited media exposure. it will take some time for them to start seeing anny sort of benefit out of large scale sponsorship. All it takes is for all thhe competitors and organisers to put on fantastic events (as has been already done) and get media coverage.

big boots are easy to get , its getting the comp compound ones here i n au he is after

a few of the offroad racing boys seem to be able to get yellow label mtrs from the states ......

I didn't realise there was 2 types of MAXXIS ceepy s I knew about the compition compounds with bfg but didn't know about the MAXXIS As ive brought the 37'' crawlies thinking they had a great soft compound and a bitchin sidewall as standard am I wrong It would be a shame BTW you said you contacted all of the places mentioned,did that include Procomp as they were offering sponsership packages to teams ,something to do with tyres and the like just an idea.GOOD LUCK

Yep and those 42's he has been running for years now. As they where on the mav thing. So have done a couple of comps and play trips.

Just to help some of you guys out, heres what they are trying to talk about.

Comp Spec Tyres have been around in America for quite a few years now. They are more often than not just a "Softer" Compound than the standard tyre.

The Comp Spec tyres should really be refered to as RockCrawling Comp Tyres, as they are not suited to many other events. A set of Red Label Krawlers would be Destroyed within half a Day running in the Outback Challenge or similar event. The Comp Spec tyres are designed to obtain maximum grip and therefore are very soft, hitting a stick at 100 k's plus will just destroy them.

Now most Comp Spec tyres are really just manufactured for Competitors of Rockcrawling events in mind and also mainly focused on the USA Market.

So here in OZ it is going to be very hard to obtain ANY Comp Spec tyre for any price.

I have only ever seen (in pictures) one set of "Red Label MTR" ever been used, that is by Walker Evans. It is known fact that they are Red Labels and a lot softer than the standard MTR (Same Tread pattern). The yellow lables would be specifically designed for Desert racing and most likly a different comound again that would suit high speeds.

Maxxis has only JUST started supplying American HIGH PROFILE competitors with the TREPIDOR Comp spec Tyre.

Toyo has also issued comp spec tyres to One or two competitors.

BFG of course have the "RED Label Krawler" which has been around and in use for a few years and is the main tyre of the USA Scene, however a few of the others are now getting on track with there comp tyres. The BFG is issued to American Competitors who have to contact a particular person to obtain a set for the year.

Mickey Thompson was one of the first to produce a Comp spec tyre, it is a copy of the Claw but uses one of the Drag tyre compound. However the bad news here is that M/T have discontinued making any Comp Spec tyre and they never produced a 40 inch Comp tyre only a 37 and i think 35.

To be totally honest i cannot see ANYONE in OZ getting sponsored or even obtaining a discount on any COMP spec Tyre (except me thanks M/T ).

WHY its simple, the companies above invest heaps of $$$$ into developing and producing the "COMP TYRES" and in return they know that they will get maybe 300,000 or even more people (threw Media coverage) in america that will see that RIG win on their tyres and therefore want to buy what is winning.

However here in OZ we would be lucky if 20000 people saw any media regarding what tyres the winner of WEROCK was driving. When Rockcrawling in Australia is up there and getting plenty of coverage in Australia and overseas then we may see these companies slipping cheap or free tyres this way.

At the moment you just have to TRY and buy them at what ever it cost to get them.

At the moment there is only ONE Set of Comp spec tyres in OZ (in use) however i am sure there will be more here in the next few months

Anybody can buy a set of tyres the same as what POS runs (even 1mad can) - you just have to know the right person.

And for $1000 each I could get you 39in Krawlers.

Will probably have a set of 40in procomps on 20in beadlocked alloy wheels for sale later this year that you can buy also.

Just show me the money!!!!

Buying comp spec tyres is easy (I mean BJ on Roids even bought a set about 2 years ago which cost way less than $1000 each) - getting them for free in another thing all together - which is what I think is what 1mad is really after.

Getting tyres for free is very difficult in Australia. So if we're going to have to pay for them, then we might as well get the best we can.

sam your right, there is a set of 37 comp claws ready to pick up right now if thats the way i want to go. but still undecided, and as dave said, if i am going to pay for them i may as well get the exact size that i want!!!!
i love the comp claws and i think thats were we might end up. as for 40" XTC procomps they are not as good a pattern or compound as the claws and they also offered me a huge $60 each discount (off $1k each) on tyres because they were to be used on a comp vehicle, and basically the VSP didnt apply to our style of vehicle (hilux or the buggy).

we have been in constant contact with them (the oz importers), but as yet there has not been a definate response as to supply in the size we are looking for, but i have been told the boys are still trying.
