Was considering a bit of a shave to the lower bumpstops today as even under full compression the front tyres do not enter the guards. Removed the torsion bars completely and dropped the car to the ground to get an idea of clearance. Noticed that both the Pitman and Steering arm come into contact with the front sway bar before I get any real compression of the bump stop.

What a bummer! With body lift and suspension lift (wll over 4 inches combined) I thought extending the sway bar connects by two inches would be ample - in the end it has been too much. Bit more chopping required but I'm guessing 1 inch will do the job nicely.

I'll show you the difference on Saturday Miyagi - running sway bar then disconnecting (thanks to franks' articulator)

I ran around for about 6 months without front and rear sway bars. The rear I never put back in but without the front the vehicle cornered like a boat. During this time I also destroyed CV boots more often than I changed my undies. The ride is a lot softer - especially off road but the cons are crap handling and far more front end wear.

It's been noted before in trimmimg bumpstops that it isn't recommended to alter the lower bumpstops( upward travel eg stuffing the wheel) There's a post somewhere in ancient history here on it.

Only trimming the upper bumpstops to allow more droop has ben successful,
In relation to your experiment on compressing the lower bumpstops, you'd have to be getting some serious air or have completely stuffed T/bars and shocks, in order to get both sides to compress enough to reach the bump stops simultaneously.
Try the experiment only stuffing one wheel while the other is about normal extension see if the results are the same?
