Rocky gearbox problem

Post by vestax »

Hi guy's , recently im having a hard time engaging into 2nd gear , which i thought the clutch was worn out , so yesterday i had the gearbox taken down , and the clutch was pretty okay after 5 years of abuse by doing lots of offroad & travelling . The pressure plate is pretty worn out , which we all assume that was the culprit as the clutch couldnt disengage . So i had bought the exedy full clutch assembly which includes pressure plate , clutch disc , thrown out bearing , pilot bearing & flywheel oil seal . Changing the clutch didnt help at all , the problem still exist .

So right now im suspecting its the synchromesh that is the culprit , is there any other cheap fix solution ? cause i just wasted hell lots of money on the clutch and im kind of broke now . Im not sure of the gearbox code , but im using a 3Y engine , any idea or advice ?.

here's a picture of my 5 year old aisin clutch , its still thick , probably can last another 20,000km ..

I had problems with 2nd gear a couple of years ago, but when i changed the oil the problem went away.

Change the oil to a good brand.. I recommend "Redline Lightweight Shockproof Oil".. or change and put an additive in: "Nulon Gearbox Treatment". Works wonders... if them two dont fix it... not much will

The only way for me to engage to second gear , when im its standstill , shifting the gear without clutching in at slow speeds or revving the engine hard at first gear and it goes in smoothly in to 2nd . The problem now is , dropping the gears from 3rd to 2nd is really making it hard to drive the rocky .

Is there any other similiar gearbox which i could use ? cause rocky parts is hard to get , if there is its gonna cost a bomb .

By the way i had change the gearoil while i did the clutch replacement , so changing to a thinner gearoil might help ?. I`ll see if i could find one .

Thanks
