MQ/MK headlight switch Question

Post by Hoppy11 »

Alrighty then, when I bought the 84MK Petrol Patrol for the Hummer convertion it was missing the indicator/wiper/headlight assembly on the steering column, I got 2, one from a petrol and one from diesel, which have the same wiring clips on the back, but the wiring from my loom is different for the lights, mine has 6 small clips, the assembly's I got have 5 big clips, the question is, what does the 6th wire on my do??, I was going to marry my wires to the clip with 5 big terminals, but I will have a spare wire then, any thoughts would be great, attatched is a pic of the 5 big pin assembly,

My loom seems to have 7 small pins, not 6, I think it could be a 24volt that has 5 pins and a 12 volt that has 7 pins ??
Maybe

yup that is my guess...diesel was 24v and the petrol was 12v. I don't know how it was in Aus. but in most places around the world diesel MQ/Mk's are 24v. Some 12v diesels do exist but not many....

In the seven pin there is 3 pins for power in, 1 for each head light out, 1 for the parkers out and 1 for the high beam relay.

I believe the 6 pin is the 24V switch as mine is 12V and its a seven pin.

use a multi meter to trace the cuircuit operation, but I believe the 24V switches had only one power in for headlights, but I don't know for sure.

Its all good, I went to the wreckers yard, they had heaps of Patrol assemby's, but they all had 5 pins, then I found one from a pulsar, identical to the patrol, and it had all the pins to suit my loom, it also has ajustable intermitted wipers, it bolted up and all plugged in perfect, just got to hook some wires for the ajustable intermitted wipers, YEA YEA
Hoppy.

so the pulsar and patrol share the same assembly.
