Hey taziiy,

I was quoted $3225 for 2 air lockers + comp fitted.

The way i see it is the parts are cheaper down south but the labour is cheaper here, so if i can buy them south & have them fitted here i should be in front. :D

If i can get a locker for $1000 x2 = $2000
Quoted $1250 here x 2 = $2500

Just saved $500

If we install the diff centres ourselves (ARB fitt the lockers) & install comp with electrics we may be able to afford it.

you can save a bit by NOT using the ARB compressor (aside from saving $, you avoid using the cheesey ARB compressor), the supercheap compressor is on special at the moment for $97, plus you will need to spend about $20 for a manifold block and fittings to bolt it all together - all available from supercheap except for 1/4" to 1/8" step down adaptors to attach the solenoids to the manifold block. you will need the ARB pressure switch which is about $30 :( unless you can come up with an alternative source - I have had no luck.

shopping list at supercheap:

compressor
5 way 1/4" female manifold block (sexy blue anodised)
1/4" male to 1/4" barbed fitting (to compressor hose)
1/4" male to air chuck (whatever connector you prefer - nitto, ryco etc - to plug in your air up hose)

from enzed, ryco etc:

2x 1/4" male to 1/8" male step downs to plug solenoids into manifold block.

bad news is you have to construct your own wiring harness although I believe ARB can supply the wiring harness only. it's not difficult to wire up either way, and the air locker instructions come with wiring diagrams.

good news is this method works for ANY compressor.

You forgot about a small air tank.

We have a Grunter compressor but wanted the switches ect that come with the compressor kit, i will check if the harness can be bought seperate.

BTW- i couldn't find a pressure switch cheaper than the ARB either.

Thanks for the info.

Give "ARB SOUTHSIDE" in Brisbane a call!

They usually have resonable prises!

I'm sure I've said this before. there is no need for an air tank to run lockers, there is no advantage in having a tank at all unless your compressor has sufficient capacity to run air tools.

in fact without an air tank you get faster locker engagements and the compressor only runs for 1 - 3 seconds per lock, so you're never sitting waiting for the thing to stop clattering so you know the pressure is up.

Unless you have a small leak somewere,

I once had a very slow leak on my front o-ring seal for a while that eventually blew out. :bad-words:

all the tank does is change the frequency of the duty cycle if there is a leak - without a tank the compressor will cycle 3sec on - 10 sec off, with a tank it could go to 30 seconds on, 1min40sec off for example, ie both 30% duty cycle. both equally annoying.

if the locker is correctly installed and the diff oil is kept free of water the orings are good for well over 100,000km. if the orings leak, it only takes a few hours to replace them. sure it's a pain in the bum but it's not the end of the world.

$45 is pretty good, wire and connectors aren't cheap and it would take an hour or more to build the same loom from scratch. of course making your own loom means you can put the switches, compressor and solenoid pack wherever you want them, and avoid ARB's silly rear first/front second interlock (though it's just a single jumper on the ARB loom).

Dude, in the past we have had simmilar questions related to this subject.
The cheapest, and best resolve, is to fit a York compressor, reciever, and PTO switches from a truck.
ARB solinoids are only valves for the 100psi your comp. contains. When switched on, the locker is engaged, dump the air, locker off.
This system is cheap, simple, you can run air tools off it AND ........... Above all else, RELIABILITY.
