i know you can bolt an 80 series high pinion into a hilux housing but my dilemma is a little different.
I recently bought a 2nd hand detroit true track from a guy who was going to put it in his hilux but never got around to it...
I have completely stripped my buggy to pieces swapping diff centres and stuff (puting existing air locker in the rear and the detroit in the front)
Tonight i pulled the hilux diff centre appart and took the crownwheel off and bolted it to the detroit, ready to put back in the carrier. Only to find the bearings wouldn't fit.
I'm assuming now, that it was orignally in a 80 series diff centre and not a hilux one.
Is there any thing i can do with the bearings etc or do i have to find an 80 series high pinion centre and bolt it all in that? Can i still use the 4.88 gears from the lux centre? or is this thing all a waste of time and i should part out the buggy?
Chris

This thread says i should just be able to get bigger bearings, that's cool but will they fit into the hilux carrier?

i.e. Do the "bigger" bearings just have a bigger internal diameter?

No you need a different bearing to the 80. You need a bearing with the early hilux outer diameter and the late hilux inner diameter. It is available as you can only buy a late hilux airlocker now(RD23) and they use this bearing to install them in early ones.Roctoy Designfab wrote:problem solved till the next thing then i guess...

What you have is a True Track to suit either a late hilux or an 80series. Your 4.88 gears wont fit an 80series front centre.
got the bearings sorted today
the part number is B32010 JA1
CBC Bearings do them for $85.10 pair incl GST
CRF Bearings at Southport sell them for $74.25 pair incl GST

do these have to be pressed on by hydraulic means or can you just use a little gentle persuasion with a hammer and a lump of wood?
