Well next weekend I'll be towing my zook up to Custom 4x4 Fabrications at Hervey Bay so the piece of sh!t finally gets underway.
Just got a quick question, the zook is sitting rather tall and on 37's at the moment and has no shocks fitted (very bouncy!). I will be ratchet strapping the chassis down to the trailer anyway, but am wondering if it having no shocks will cause any dramas?
Would it be better to just drop the springs out so it has no movement at all? (I'll also take the windscreen off, so its a little more streamline)
buy a coulpa small rachet straps.. and strap your chassis to the diffs and compress them a bit so that it wont bounce around so much.. and then use bigger ones to strap the chassis to the trailer.
custom bar work, 4x4 parts, trailers, anything out of steel/alloy :D
The shocks would not really add much in that context. I think what you are planning sounds okay as is. Could consider letting the tyres down a bit to keep everything lower down.
Strap the tyres to the trailer bed - do the ratchets up nice and tight and the tyres will keep the whole thing under tension and stop it working loose during the trip.
If you want to get fancy then use a shackle or d-ring to loop the ratchet round the front and back of the tyre before tying it down.

It's coil sprung, not leaf, so with the coils removed the control arms are all still keeping everything in place and the chassis would just rest on the diffs.
Thanks for the info all.....I'll leave the coils in.....Actually just remember I've got a lower set, so will fit them, then just strap the chassis right down with a couple of ratchet straps.........Can't wait for this to actually get started.....

Nathan doesn't know about coils yet... He's stuck in 1984
I reckon strap the chassis down, and then put enough tension on the body to stop the excess bobbing due to having no shocks.
Don't strap the body down too hard tho, compressing the springs too much can be harmful.
I finally found the zook in that pic LOL

You don't care about tieing the zuk on the trailer. Anyone can see that this was a cheap attempt at getting your girly to pose for the camera Tie the body to the trailer with rope or staps. It won't move too much
Dave, just tie it down from the diffs, and then run a seperate strap to control body roll, we towed the Mav back from Sydney with a 6" lift in it and it didn't roll around too much.

Cool as Ash......I just went and bought two new big fark off ratchet straps....so should be all sweet!!
In case you's can't tell I haven't had that much experience with towing, so I've just got one last question....Since installing the cruiser coils in the rear of the 4runner (over 4" lift), the sway bar no longer fits as the link pins aren't long enough......should I get the link pins lengthed and refit the sway bar before towing? Or will having no rear sway bar cause any dramas while towing?
Sway/anti roll bars are there for a reason. The more you lift and de-stabilise your tow vehicle, the less suitable it is for towing. At least refit the sway bar.

Hope they are better than the ones you got to tow it out to cruiser

100 times better Andrew......there is no handbrake on the zook to hold it on if they snap this time, so got quality fawkers instead of Bunnings Shit!!!
