OUTER LIMITS measure up

Post by professor »

One of the hardest thing I found with trying to design a tuff rig was the availability of specs and measurements of the most useful kind

IE. Shock length, wheelbase, ride height.

If you have the info please share it around I’m hoping this will give every one a page of reference to see what works and what doesn't

Copy the template and fill out what you have and leave blank what you don’t.

1 Wheelbase
text
2 Width (side wall to side wall)
text
3 Chassis height (ground to chassis under driver.)
text
4 Front shock up travel from ride height
text
5 Rear shock up travel from ride height
text
6 Front axle weight
text
7 Rear axle weight
text
8 Total weight
text
9 spring rate front(pounds)
text
10 spring rate rear(pounds)
text
11 Tyre size
text
12 Final drive ratio (box +transfer+diff)
text
13 Suspension configuration (i.e. coils 4link Front leaf wrap bar Rear)
text
14 Power plant (petrol 4 cylinder turbo 2.5L)
text
15 vehicle type (cab chassis, wagon)
text
16 Diff location front (100mm forward, normal)
text
17 Diff location rear (100mm rearward, normal)

Way too many other variables to be of any value.

It's one thing to have a huge list of wheelbases, tracks, gearing, etc., but what is the real point in it? No two vehicles are the same, whether it be tyre diameter, suspension set up, additional hardware underneath (long range tanks/gas tanks, any number of variations on bullbars, etc).

Simply gives the police and others (thieves/car strippers) a "shopping list", listing illegal bits as well as bits that can be "borrowed" on a permanant basis..............
George Carlin, an American Comedian said; "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realise that half of them are stupider than that".

The point! to give reference to see why it works how and yes there are no 2 vehicals the same  to see a comparison is what this is all about, not to have a shopping list.

If you don't like the idea don't post

It seems that all outerlimits is theses days are smart ass comments that don't help anyone! that is my reference to not posting!.

its just a defence. i was trying to keep it tech related not pulling the piss out of why it won't work as a few comments have already backed up.

im keen to see the numbers and it will only start working when we get a few jottting them down.
so common people dont be affraid of the mob get under your rig and measure up.

dont stress about getting all the bits, do what you can.

I only knew the weights because i needed to weight my truck to get it engineered and it was a great help in setting up the spring rates. if your near a weigh bridge one day pull in and pay the $10 and weigh the front and the back.

maybe if you want you could say the good things about your rig too like is good on side slopes or it works well in mud or its great at hill climbs

yea i was agreeing with you saying that why post if your not going to add to the spec list....im very intrested in seeing the specs and when people post crap like "thats too hard ,all that measuring and stuff" its just filling it up with crap!!
i would post my measurements and specs but im in germany untill january and my rig is in Oz
