V8 into Hilux
Bought a '89 Lux a couple weeks ago, it needs a rebuild, and a full rebuild is pretty pricy.
Thinking of putting in a 302 or 350 in it instead.
Wondering how much work will need to be done to put one in.
Cheers.

i just put a 253 into my 86 model and it cost me no more than 650 but i got the kit off ebay have a look on there if you can find a kit and i had a motor lined up i cant see it costing any more than 2000 for all brand new stuff
Re: v8 into a lux
Been quoted around $4500-$5000 for a total rebuild, crank and all.shortylux wrote:i just put a 253 into my 86 model and it cost me no more than 650 but i got the kit off ebay have a look on there if you can find a kit and i had a motor lined up i cant see it costing any more than 2000 for all brand new stuff
What is the 253 like in the lux?
One thing you also need to consider with an engine conversion is all of the small stuff you need to buy, it adds up. Having just done one i know.
I do have a mate with a rolled Hilux fitted with a 2.8 Turbo'd intercooled engine he wants to sell.
Well I'm guessing that they didn't think everyone would carry on like a big bunch of sooky girls over it like they have........
How much for the whole thing? Or just the engine.sierrajim wrote:One thing you also need to consider with an engine conversion is all of the small stuff you need to buy, it adds up. Having just done one i know.

v8
its the best thing ive ever done make really good power i used a deasil radiator and it doesnt even come cose to over heating a 350 would be really good but for the price its not worth it i run 35s and it does not have any probs turning them
Allow at least 2500-3000 dollars to do the conversion properly.. can be done cheap but will without doubt brake down. gearbox will not last under any circumstances so dont believe any one who says it will, they are full of shit, they should not be allowed to sell bell housing kits to suit v8's for such crap box's.. A auto will work better as it is made for the motor unless your willing to slash out on a dyna box.. over heating is also a problem, so short answer is can be done quite easily and will be reliable if done right.,
gq wagon now a gq ute, straight gas tb42 with a thing on the side that makes it go fast
