Re: rover vs buick motor
I know one of the major differences was the heads. From memory the Buick Skylark heads will actually give you more engine volume but lower comp. Fine for a blower or turbo but also getting very hard to get and expensiv-ish A while ago I looked into it and finally found a guy in the states who had a ...

good on you though for having a go! One day if I have enough money I might upgrade from my D1 but not until all these sorts of things are fully sorted. Maybe a better way is to drop the mounts for the suspension effectively giving the same lift but full use of it. LRA were looking at something like ...

looked into this a while ago and these guys seem to have all the goods although might cost some $$ landed here with all the bits it has been done before. The 5.5 L rover motor sounds interesting too especially with a twin turbo setup

Yep agree with the above but my old system used to backfire occassionally even with new plugs and 9mm staino core gas leads. The answer is to have a relief system (which I couldnt really fit). The other way is that a friend who is running a rover 3.9 in his rangie who has had the dizzy recurved for ...

yeah and keep in mind that the tanks for the RR dont fit a Disco necessarily due to the body brace that runs through in the disco. Long Range Automotive mod Range Rover ones up with notches so they will fit a disco for about $150... Ask me how I know.... Anyhow fair to say my $250 tanks are ...

4BY INSURANCE
Insurance renewal just came up....so I though I would look around Most insurers will want to charge $600 to $850 per year and cover you for bugger all. Diff-locks arent normally covered, bar work may not be covered, after market lights, wheels tyres, racks, uhf etc, winch etc. often not covered. I ...

Tyre Sizes -Are they what they are supposed to be
OK to get the ball rolling... I have got some 285 /75 (or 33x 11.5s) BFG All terrains that measure around 32 inches and have nearly full tread. I have some simex JT2s in a 34 inch that also have plenty of tread that measure about 15mm bigger than the 32's which are supposed to be 33's. Then I have ...

loanrangie is right - a lot depends on the offset and how wide a tyre you go. According to one of the tyre fitment guides a 7.5 R16. This diameter almost equals a 33 inch "road tyre" and will go on a disco on standard rims with no offset as it supposedly tucks into the guards with no issues...except ...

tip for the day. If you get your car engineered in another state (eg NSW) and reg there, you can bring it straight down to Vic and reg. here as once registered with an engineers cert in another state they wont knock it back! Thats how one of the guys here got a suziki registered in Vic with 37 inch ...

Agree - pretty much drive it as is. Maybe a winch and bar (should be able to get second hand for about $1500 - lockers are also great but wont get you as far. If you go a rear locker you should also get hituff axles especially if you are planning on going bigger down the track. If you get a winch ...

Cranky's motor
Finally went down to Vicroads in the disco today to get the new engine number recorded. Put on the mate's 31's, actually fit some mudguards and pulled the coil spacers out. It looked reasonably streetable despite the body lift. The trick was to go down in the middle of a 43 degree day for the ...

Thanks for the encouragement - now I have ...

A little body lift will help too. It can be done with 33s and only flares and 2inches of lift but to stop rubbing tyres regularly you need to space the bump stops downwards (less clearance means stiffer springs/shocks) or a little bit of a body lift. (I also have the quarter panel tank for the gas ...
