G'Day, Nope, not dead yet. I haven't been here in a long while. I got a notice about a thread that I was watching years ago and found that there were PM's about axle swaping. That is some OLD pics of me truck. It is still on the road and doing well every day. It now sits on 35's, is 3 linked in the ...

That would depend on how good you are at fabricating. Brackets would have to be made for the front and rear of the radius arms, brackets for the track bar, the track bar itself with Heim joints, shock hoops etc.. If you do leafs in the front you are still going to have to do some fabricating and the ...

Yes I'll email you some pics. I lost all of my build up pictures in a hard drive crash. The rear suspension is the stock Daihatsu leaf springs over the axle and some longer cheap shocks. The rear axle is from a `91 truck and the front is from an `85 4Runner. Newer front suspension is Range Rover ...

I spent two years gathering parts before I swapped engines and stuff. So lt wasn't an expense all at once. Did the SAS two years before and that wasn't too bad. Redid ...

No on the exhaust manifold. Most of them seem to crack at some point. I went with extractors from New Zealand via Oz. Even the cast iron manifold on the swapped in Toyota engine had a hairline crack...went with headers off of Ebay. I suppose that the crack can be MIG'd or TIG'd to get you by. The ...

You've done a lot of work so far. I don't know how you turn over the 35's with the stock gearing. I had to go down to 5.71's with 33's and that put it a little better than stock tires/ gearing. With the 4.3L and Daihatsu axles  I've said this before here: Look for a body damage wrecked Toyota ...

Any engine conversion will be expensive as a lot of parts will have to be fabricated. Like engine mounts, cross member, drive shafts...plus re-wiring and a lot of other problems that come up. I have a Toyota 2.7L 4cyl and really love it. I wanted to keep the truck and not worry about getting parts ...

Re: Call for help

Can anyone tell me if they have any slop in the back of the gearbox where the drive shaft spins in? I believe that if it is a front to back slop then it is the pinion gear in the diff. Maybe a crush sleeve or worn bearing. If it is rotational it's gear backlash. All diffs have a certain amount of ...

The easiest way to get lower gears, is to swap a different driveline into your car.....and then buy the 'off-the-shelf' reduction gearset for the box you swapped in. :D Right :!: Or put in dual transfer cases with a reduction set in the rear case...then change the differential gears...and then... :D

These don't separate. They are on the engine swap but something similar could be made for the 1.6L. I was supprised that there is very little vibration. I noticed that there is more torque going to the wheels with these. I tore the stock left engine mount which took out the tranny mount also a long ...

I think that I responded to your original post but... I am totally sold on the 3RZ. It has OBDll which covers all operating perameters. An auto tranny is considered the best for rock crawling over here. There are around 6 manual transmissions that will bolt to the W59 bell housing. The G52, G54 ...

Was the 2.7 a hard swap? Did you use all the Toyo bits (like radiator, etc)? Any engine swap will be difficult even for professional mechanics. Toyota 2.7L 4cyl. Keep the W59 bell housing and any W or G series 5 speed will bolt up. Conservatively rated at 150 hp but more like 160. Ram pod, headers and hotwires around 180hp. Will chirp 35" tyres from a stop. Gets about the same gas milage as the 1.6L Daihatsu as long as you can keep your ...

I never did like the stock rear lower shock mounts. They hang down too far and get snagged. I had my old shocks (BlackDiamond) angled at the top and you do get more travel. Having them angled as much as I did there is very little dampening and more body roll. I have since spaced the tops at about 14 ...
