Re: What Mig welder ?
Agree with not buying cheap, old saying poor man always pays twice.
I have owned and used arc welders for easy 20 years or so and fairly good at it, thing is i borrowed a mig a while back and forgot how good they are.... loved it.
That Cigweld one sounds like what im after, will check it out. Thanks

Looking to buy a little general purpose mig welder for home use prob gasless as i dont realy need to hire gas cylinders. Heard some say to avoid the inverter type as there is more electronics that can fail over time, is this the general opinion ? Looking for value for money as its only the ...

80 series aftermarket radius arms
Im sure we have talked about this but searched and didn't find much, so here go's. I have a 6" lift on my 80 series and have previously used offset caster bushes but this led to me breaking off the diff mounts under flex. Next i used caster plates and this worked well except the radius arms are too ...

especially so as we don't often wear seat belts when driving off road. Well that's even dumber than wanting to turn the airbags off. Why the hell wouldn't you wear seatbelts? River crossings would be one. So that takes up what ... .00002 percent of all your time offroad .. and how often do you take ...

Mud flaps
Been looking for a couple of black mud flaps 600 wide x 350 to 400 high.
Checked local truck shops but they only have white ones as apparently black ones are illegal on the back of a truck.....don't know why.
Anyone know if its possible to get black ones at all ?

Everything looks fine to me Kev. I can only see the weak point being the actual wheel bracket, everything below that has plenty of vertical bracing & the overcentre clamp used is very sturdy. brooksy Im not worried about the rest of the carrier, they are mass produced & have stood the test of time ...

I know your not having a go at me, without good info being good or bad how are you supposed to learn. I appreciate the comments. So here are a couple of pics before i lightly grind & paint, im really not thinking i should have too many problems but the constant sideways vibration is the only concern ...

Yes the gap between the 2 rhs was quite big so thats why i inserted 2 pieces of 40mm flat bar & welded them to the original frame before sliding the new 50mm rhs on. Believe it or not this was a perfect fit. Once the 50mm piece is in place i welded inside it before welding it to the swivel. You can ...

Welded it today, 3 or 4 passes to make sure. :P Cranked it right up & took the lid off the welder & had a fan blowing on it to keep it cool as it tripps out with over use some times. Whats the go with cooling it under the garden hose after welding ? Is a slow cool or a quick one with water better or ...

3mm square bar I take it? It said 5mm but looks more like 4mm. (tack welded only) the only other problem would be the kind of roads you'd end up on, some might be ok others could shake the sh*t out of it, that might cause some problems. I want it to handle the worst roads, ie Cape York. you will ...

I think im quite good at arc welding but im not sure about the strength of welds & what loads can be applied to welded joins etc. In the pics below is a wheel carrier im upgrading with a swivel hub & considering it will have a 35" steel rim wheel & high lift jack i thought id tack it all together ...

probably a bit late now but did you look at sleeving the bar, as in finding a bit if thin walled pipe that fit snug and weld it to either the bar of the carrier, putting a nylon disc, like a washer between the 2 may also also help.. I actually tried this about a year ago but you are only talking a ...

Yeah but from where ? Kaymar will do the change over them selves in NSW/ VIC but considering im in QLD i asked if they can just supply their swivel mount but they said no & wouldn't help me. :bad-words: Im only assuming a trailer hub is cast, just looks like it. For the time being i have welded the ...

Welding advice needed.
The old wheel carrier on my Kaymar rear bar has worn out the mounting bracket & shakes around on rough roads. It is just a solid shaft pivoting in a hollow tube. (with grease). Im looking to upgrade the swing mount to a axle shaft with bearings & thinking about using a trailer hub centre ...
