Re: GU Heater Fan Resistor Box location????

Just as suggested they were on a card in the airbox. There seems to be a fusible link on the card that all three resistors are in series with, not sure why as it is fuse protected in the fuse box?? Anyhow the fusible link was open circuit so I have soldered a solid link in and all works okay for now...

GU Heater Fan Resistor Box location????

The heater fan in the cabin of my GU wagon only works on setting #4. I can see on the wiring diagram that there is a resistor box between the switch and the fan that controls the other three settings, and I have checked the switch itself and all tests okay. Before I spend hours searching for the res...

Re: BFG muddies, Removing rim protector?

I agree, plenty of mud in the beads on the old style, new KM2's are much better, not one leak in 40000k's.

Re: part number of locker for front on 88 GQ SWB??

Was around $300, that was a few years ago and the exchange rate wasn't anywhere as near as good as it is now which would work in your favour.

Re: Rusred Rear Sliding Windows

It was a few years ago now but I ended up buying genuine frames at 200 a side. A bit pricey but it was the easiest option at the time.

4.2 Conversion Tacho Issues

A mate has just done a 4.2TD conversion into a 2.8 GU. He sourced the 4.2 motor from a GQ, and can't work out how to get the tacho working. Any tips on which wires in the 2.8 harness connect to where on the motor would be appreciated. Cheers.

Re: Rusred Rear Sliding Windows

I replaced the frame in my GQ and there was no rust anywhere else, the body was fine. Was quite easy to pull the rubber and frame out once I summoned the courage up to give it a go.

Re: Which Brand of Auto Lokker

I used a Richmond Gears Lockright Locker from the USA in a SWB GQ running 33's a few years ago and had no dramas at all despite everything I threw at it. :)

I had never done one till recently, a 99 GU TD42 and seal came mounted in the appropriate alloy plate that bolted to back of block, a bit pricey but easy to install.

Re: tyres

I would say be carefull running the 33x9.5's BFG. I had them on my old MQ shortie years ago and I ended up wearing out the sidewall more then the tread! They seemed to be too tall for the width and would roll on the rim a bit. Depends on the weight of the car and how you drive it but i guess. I wou...

GU Questions

Just updated the SWB GQ to a GU wagon, about to start to build it up and have a couple of questions hoping someone might be able to answer. Chasing a winch bar ofr the front, will a ute bar fit on a wagon or are chassis width/mounts too different? Car already has a small lift but not sure how far ab...

Thanks guys, I have found someone who is capable and willing to have a look for me. I was going to give the RACV a miss, if they are anything like their NSW counterparts I wouldn't have much faith in their inspections.

Due to an ever expanding family, looking to upgrade the swb GQ to a GU, can anyone tell me whether the DX model has the mounting points for the third row of rear seats so it could be turned into a seven seater?

Question about how tyre size would affect caster angle, wouldnt the tyre size make no difference at all? Larger tyres would not change the angle between the chassis and diff which seems to be the reason for correcting caster angle, i.e the taller the spring the more caster correction required. Tyre ...

Is it possible/dangerous to disconnect the rear shaft, put it in 4H and drive it by the front wheels to 100kmh? That way I can at least pin point if it is tailshaft back. It is possible to remove the rear shaft to try and isolate the noise, just be ready for some strange handling characteristics, a...
