Re: GQ 4.2 Petrol Stalling After 20 sec

Have the oil filters been changed recently? My TD42 used to stall dead on 10secs after starting it after I replaced the oil filters (with non-genuine) because there was no anti-drainback-valve in them, and if the oil pressure doesn't get above a certain point within 10secs, the engine turns itself ...

JBL 6.5" 640gte fit in my GQ. Big diameter low profile magnets too so I made 20mm thick mdf spacers for better clearance through the factory hole. Didnt want to cut What he said. Fronts are 6.5" on a GQ and are very shallow on my car, which has electric windows and manual mirrors. I used 20mm MDF ...

Re: Tjm Vs ome

Firstly hi, i'm a first time poster longtime watcher from england. I have a 1995 gq lwb, I'm after a 2-3inch spring lift to improve belly clearance and gain clearance for 33's I have had really good experiances before with ome stuff, but tjm seem to have a better choice of lift heights and poundage ...

Re: Few questions for the GQ Gurus!

Question #3: The third row seats..... did the later GQ's ever come out with a split third row that folds up to the side which perhaps I could swap out for the little bench seat? Some Patrols have inward-facing bench seats in the rear that fold up against the rear windows. My car's a 92 Cypriot ...

In Australia Nissan have their key numbers on record but ford didnt keep them for the Mavericks, they keys I got cut were for a Maverick.

Help: Need Nissan (GQ) "key no." from VIN

I spoke to my local (UK...) dealership today to see if they could cut me a key from my VIN, as the key's too worn to copy, but apparently Nissan UK no longer have records going back to the mid-90s so no-can-do. Worst case, I can take a lock barrel into a locksmith and they might be able to help, but ...

John, Alex: Thanks for that. A bit more food for thought there. (Apart from the JB Weld trick...) I'm going to drive the car for the first time ever on Sat, having owned it for a year :D so we'll see what the oil pressure actually does on a run; that might tell us something. That's super-helpful - many thanks. I'll see what I can find.

Any downsides to flushing, or am I just being overly paranoid about washing all the sludge into the mains, and having zero compression, because it was only the carbon sealing the rings...

Hi John I definitely think the fuel filter was contributing to the problem; the Fram I've just fitted definitely does nip up better than the previous ones. The reason I was blaming the fuel filter was that the car always started and ran fine, right up to the point when I changed the filters, so I ...

Gents - Many thanks - I owe you all a beer - it's definitely low oil pressure. I started the car today, and sure enough, 10 seconds in, the stop-solenoid does its thing. Patroler: Thanks for that! It's interesting to hear that the SD33 can activate the stop solenoid in response to low oil pressure too. I'm not convinced that it isn't an air leak, but I've been blaming crappy fuel filters all this time, but it sounds like it could actually be crappy oil filters ...

Canuck: Thanks for that. I'm just trying filter brand #3 - Fram - so I'll see if that solves it. That's the first decent brand-name filter I've tried, so I'm hoping it's just the two previous brands having bad seals somehow. If not, I'll definitely try pressurising the system as you suggest. Help! TD42 stalls 10 secs after starting & then restarts

I'm struggling to solve a really annoying little problem with my TD42, and I'm hoping someone can give me some pointers. The car is a 1992 Cypriot import into the UK, with a N/A TD42, 12v electrics, an inline injector pump, an SD33-type stop-solenoid, and a disposable 'canister'-type fuel filter. I ...

yea, you can open most of it up, usually it stops due to getting dirt and grease on the contacts - inside the bit where the control lever comes out of.. just carefully disassemble it and clean, then it should work when re installed. Cool :) Any idea if spares are available? The tiny tension-spring ...

Some say the inline pump is better? Alex I imagine Dzltec will correct me if I'm wrong, but from what little I've read, inline pumps are (very broadly) more like pumps from small trucks, and can handle SVO a lot easier, for example. TD42 inline (not rotary) injector-pump fuelling screw

G'day all. I've got a ex-Cyprus high-roof LWB GQ here in the UK, which, just FYI, looks a lot like a Safari, except it's a 12v, non-turbo car, with none of the Safari toys. Whilst it's much the same as a 'normal' GQ in most regards, it's got a Zexel inline injector pump, not a rotary, so most of the ...
