Pajero is a good option, although once you get past the 200,000km mark they are prone to blowing smoke etc, although it really depends on what the service history is like. Stick with the 3lt or 3.5lt SOHC engine and not the DOHC one which is in the link above. The DOHC can get real expensive if it n...

Noise in the suspension area

I know this is going to be hard to diagnose but just wondering if anyone has any ideas. I have a 100 series Landcruiser with solid axle front. When Im going over hard speed bumps and making left or right turns where the road is not level, there is a "cracking / clunking" sound coming from ...

Pretty reliable motor but they are slow and love to drink the petrol.
Mine got arond 15lt/100kms and on gas it was about 20lt/100kms.

Went ok, and all Hilux's of that era are slow so dont worry about that.
You can always put EFI on it or convert it to the 3rz motor.

Its not causing any issues with the steering, suspension or anything so probably shouldnt need to be done at all?

I imagine its going to be a costly job? Or relatively straight forward?

So anything over 50mm DOESNT need to be inspected?

Damaged mount on chassis rail

Just got a question, as I understand, welding etc onto the chassis rails is a big no no due to weakening the rail? The radius arm mount on my cruiser looks as though its taken a hit from underneath and the mounting is slightly bent. This is welded onto the chassis rail. Do they cut the mount off and...

Checked it out today and the jury is out on this one :)

Drives ok, blows a little smoke on idle and the gearbox either needs a service or is getting tired (gear changes not super smooth). Will need minor things done like some tyres and a new windscreen.

Yeah clean one anywhere from $16-$20k. The lux is good, although the cruiser would be nicer on longer drives. The lux, being a commercial vehicle can be a bit of a pain as a daily. The km arent of a big concern because of the price Im looking at paying. As long as it doesnt have any major mechanical...

Thanks I'll check it out and if it runs and drives ok I'll pick it up and take some pics of it.

I dont believe its a ex mine because its a GXL and not a poverty pack model with vinyl flooring. It needs work and thats why its cheap. Body work, and possibly mechanical.

Doing the mods and changes I dont mind as I treat it as like a expensive hobby. I like the way the Hilux is currently setup, although a Cruiser would be better on the road. I will probably be really only looking at paying around $7k for it as I think thats all its worth as is with the high kms too. ...

Engine coversions and such I would need to pay someone as I just dont have the space to do it, or else I'd be doing that myself too. Yeah I understand the suspension and other items will need attention as it looks all orig...

High kms on a cruiser - now with pics!

Hi everyone, There is a 100 series I might be inspecting in the coming week which will be going cheaply. Its got the 1FZ-FE engine and the car is generally in ordinary condition. It also has 300,000kms on it with no service history (own servicing). What are these engines like? I know it does depend ...

Tyres are practically brand new.

Originals were 205r16 although they have been changed to 235/75/15.
Would increasing the castor 2-3 degrees help drive ability?

Also, with wedges, do they roll the diff back?

Ive adjusted the steering box so it seems fine. Looks as though I need to increase my castor.

At the moment, its about 1.5 degrees, should I get apair of 2 or 3 degree wedges?

So I should get some 3 degree wedges put in and go over the factory spec?

On the wheel alignment print out, it says its within spec, and the Gregory's manual I have here says about 1.5 degrees.

I got the front end checked out not too long ago and they said it was fine and didnt need the wedges.

The print out I got has the following:

Front

Caster(degrees)
L 1.4
R 1.2

Camber(degrees)
L 0.4
R 0.5

Improving the Hilux steering

HI everyone, The steering in my Hilux is a bit vague, and is this just normal for a solid axle front Hilux? When driving and the car is just going over normal bumps and stuff on these beautiful Sydney roads, I always need to correct it. So it makes driving a bit of a chore, compared to a rack and pi...

Wiper assembly

I need to fit blades to the wiper on my 92 Hilux and noticed the wiper blade holder is a bit worse for wear, so I was going to buy some of those Bosch complete assembly things. Problem is, they are designed to fit on the arms which have a hook and it looks as though the wiper arm on my Hilux is held...

As for the excess coax, instead of bunching it up and tying it, should I just leave it loose and tuck it up under the dash area to prevent it coiling up?

What fuel consumption can I expect from the old 22r on petrol and lpg? Petrol I get around 15-16l/100km around town which seems to be about the norm as they like to drink :) Ive had LPG fitted and the first couple of tanks seems to be using around 23l / 100km. Does this sounds excessive or about on ...

Check the fluid in the clutch master cylinder.

Was it slipping before? IS the master and slave cylinder leaking?
