Getting an NJ Pajero...

I'm buying an NJ Pajero 3ltr V6 and I have a couple of questions.
Will the suspension seats from an NG model bolt into an NJ?
The dash indicator lights for the front hubs in the 4x4 activation display flash. What causes this? How do I stop it?

Cheers

Hi,

I drive an 84 solid axle, if you want comfort and handling then the solid axle is probably not for you. That being said I love mine :) I have mine for the extra wheel travel and the simpler nature for modifications.
You'll probably start wanting to do more 4wding once you have one so I'd still ...

I have put diesel/gas injection on mine and it make a HUGE difference. That being said, it is heaps cheaper to do a turbo.

I would imagine you could always cut the mounts off your old diffs and custom fab some coil mounts etc. Just my 2c. Easier than trying to fit your lockers into 80series diffs...

Any one know the rear shackle pin diameter for an 84 4 runner? If not I can measure later on.

I'm looking forward to having a go at this. The 4Runner's not up to regular Nissan Trial's standards. The question now is do I leave the detroit in the back and go into tough touring or put the old centre back in and go for touring class? So many decisions......

Looking forward to it :)

I run pretty much what you're talking about. 2" lift and 33's. If you don't space the front diff forward you will scrub the back of the front inner guards when turning on compression. I'm attempting to solve this by grinding out the offending lip and having the inner guard smoothed out.

I run 4.55 ...

Sounds like it could be ok to me. I wouldn't put my 4Runner through the regular Nissan Trials and with a rear Detroit locker I don't meet Son of trials requirements either.

I have an 84 4 Runner which is similar, I run 4.55 ratios but it is still sluggish and lacks low down off road. I have also added diesel/gas enhancement to give more power so it's not the same as standard. I'd go for 4.88's to try and bring it back in line with what you have with smaller tyres ...

Hi,

I have Diesel Gas in my 2L powered 4 runner, it makes a difference but I couldn't put a percentage on it.
It's significant enough not to require crawling up decent hills on the highway in 2nd gear running 33's.........

It is an expensive exercise to do, I'm not sure but I think the govt. has ...

If you decide to do the diff centre I have a spare one with standard ratio that I'm not using anymore. Did you have the petrol or diesel runner?

If the 2L diesel I would suggest changing to 4.88 or similar to run the 33's you want to.

Cheers.

Check out 4sum4's build. It's on page 4 of the member's section currently. He built it from an IFS model but it has big lift and big tyres.
I haven't noticed anymore tendancy to roll or lean than any 4b I've had before. Hope that helps :)

I have 2" lift in my 84 4runner and run 33's. Inside the front guards underneath the plastic there is a raised seam. You will catch the front wheels when turned on compression if you don't either bash the seam flat or cut them out.

Other than that, great choice of car! Enjoy!

Longer spring in rear of 4Runner

Hi,

I'm putting IFS rears into the back of my solid axle 4 runner.
Will this space the rear diff backwards?
If so what mods do I need to do to get it all working properly?

Thanks..

I have 33's on my solid front 4 runner, you'll have to add more lift or as ferrit said take to them with a BFH.
The other option I've heard about is to relocate the axle on the leaf pack an inch or so forward and add a drive shaft spacer. I'm not sure if it would mean you have to alter steering ...

Definately binding on bodywork. There is a lip it looks like inside the guard. I'm pretty sure that's where it's binding. I'll try smashing it with a hammer and see how it goes.........

Thanks for your advice....

Front wheel binding on 4Runner

I have an 84 4 Runner with a 2" lift on 33's.

When the front is turned on compression I get binding up on the body work. Is there a way to solve this easily without bodylift or spacing the front diff forward?

Ta!
