Re: need help with snorkel size on GQ with 454

I didnt want 2 snorkels as i dont think that it would look rite, it may be better ballanced though, the problem with running out the drivers side is the lack of space due to the main battery, water bottle and brakes in the way

need help with snorkel size on GQ with 454

Hi all, My 1990 GQ has a 454 vortec motor with twin 425 impco gas mixers. The current setup has the 2 mixers on their side each with 4" tubing blending together onto the top of the inlet manifold with one 850 DP holley base plate. Then there is an exposed oval filter on the mixers. I want to add a ...

Re: best tow vechicle???

Get a vehicle with as much engine torque as you can (within reason) and make sure that its not reving to high to achieve it otherwise you will be gearing down all the time My 454 GQ is by far the best thing i have ever owned for towing, 4x4 driving and as a daily driver, there is nothing you cant ...

Re: std 454 into gq shorty

GO THE 454 I have a 454 in a gq now after having a 351 before, the 454 is so much better, uses less fuel and has a lot more power. the 351 was not that great at all, however it was awsome in my XY, power to weight thing really. The 454 also fits in the gq really well, nothing to close and no pannel ...

Re: Random Misfire, Replaced Everything.

I've had this problem before, i would start by putting all the old leads back on and then the old coil. check that there is not a lead arcing across to the head somewhere. This can be seen in the dark easier check for a good stable 12V at the coil and there is no wiring or distributor cap damage ...

Re: Idle speed adjustment - GQ Patrol on gas

set the speed with it running on petrol first,
there will be a LPG idle mixture screw on the mixer or convertor most likely the convertor in your case by the looks of the picture, dont adjust the main inline flow control is for cruise and full power

Re: Accuracy of torque wrenches?

Get a callibrated torque wrench and a bit of hex bar, put your torque wrench with socket on it onto one side of the hex bar and do the same on the other side of the hex bar with the callibrated torque wrench, set both to 100 N.m. Pull both together then match your setting to the callibrated one at ...

Re: gear ratios for acceleration

Sounds like your talking about mud racing, id definatly go a V8 with a worked auto and then try it with std diff ratios, just let the auto pick the best gear, or manually shift, manual gear box would be to slow. Plus the added clutch work your leg would need to do. Waterproofing should be no problem ...

The thermostat is to regulate the temp as you say, but even when it is fully open it reduces the flow, this is a bad thing. Removing it helps a system which is struggeling in other areas, but cold days are a problem

You can hose ford GT shaker straight into the front and the filter will not get wet, its below the front opening.
Any water runs off the top plate that holds the filter on and into the shaker bowl and then drains out through small holes around the edges

I agree, i had a similar problem with the LPG controler dropping the MSD coil out. Just give the LPG box direct 12 volt to see if that helps.
if it does then find another engine running 12 sigal to run the LPG box, its only a twin input relay really.
