Ive had a LS1 in my landrover for nearly 6 years

My engine builder who does HP commodores all day says a standard 4l60e wouldnt be up to the task especially if you have big tyres etc

Yep I run water wetter with water only in a gen 3 , no issues at all

I use it in my off road racer and have done for 5 years,it does work, remember though it doesnt have any anti freeze qualities

it wont fix other problems with you cooling system

Remembering Im running them on an offroad race car (110) and a tow car/ tourer (130) so they are small compared to what most guys on here would use

In both cases 265/75/16 or close to 32in. I think this is about the standard height wise on a defender anyway

I raced with these tyres on the Australasian Safari this year. They were very good on fast tracks and stood up well to the rough stuff as well

Im using them on both defenders now

Sand is fine on the defender 130 running 14psi in the soft beach sections

I ground out the bottom section about 400mm along the edge

There is a hole at the bottom where its ground out completely about 100mm long

I ground out just enough to make it fit

Ive had a gen 3 in my defender 110 for coming up 5 years

Mine is bolted up to a torque flite 727 and we had the same issue

We just ground out the bell housing, the adaptor plate didnt need grinding in my case

Its been raced almost 40,000kms and that part of the conversion hasnt been an issue at ...

you may want to do some homework on what we are running offroad racing. The class leading class 8 ( Extreme 4wd) isnt running that sort of front travel

If you want or need power go the gen 3. I used to have a mild 4.6lt in my disco with 4.11s etc and nothing beats the gen 3 for brute horsepower

My 110 weighs in at 1920kg with fuel and two spares and is heavy for an offroad racer.

Having had a disco with a 4.6 in it and I currently have a defender with a gen 3 Id say if you want horsepower do it once and go Gen 3

You will have to make sure evrything else in the driveline is up to spec

The 4.6 is sluggish and thirsty but is an improvement on a 3.5
