Re: whats wrong with my brakes

i had the same issue just recently, it was the front wheel bearings.

the theory goes, if your wheel bearing are loose, they can create a whobble in the hub which makes it hard for the brake to clamp.

i'm in the same boat,

was told on the weekend that ultra grey is the go with diffs.

i talked to someone at repco, and they said just as long as it has a high resistance to oils it'll be fine.

i was abit rushed to get it all done for my labour day weekend trip to the high country.
there are a few things that i want to change when i've got some time;
-replace top bend to rubber

Re: tyre + rim combo issues

$350-400?!?! wtf!

my tubes cost me $30ea fitted and balanced in 31x10.5r15 - not simex tubes though, but they weighed about 2kg each so they were pretty thick i'd imagine.

yeah- i thought it was pretty expensive, he wanted $40 labour (each tyre) to give them a good clean up with a wire brush ...

Re: tyre + rim combo issues

It's not only air pressure that holds the rim to the tyre; there's also a bead on the rim. AFAIK, 4wds are supposed to run "JJ" rims, which means they have "safety beads" (whatever they are) on both sides of the rim. If your rims are "JJ" then this should be stamped/cast somewhere on the rim. Have ...

"FUEL TANK" warning light. 80 series

G'day guys,

i've got a 80 series, 4.5 petrol that is run on gas almost 100% of the time, (there is always atleast 1/4 of a tank of petrol in the tanks, but it is never 'run' on petrol). the "FUEL TANK" warning light has lit up on my dash, i read the owners manual and it says to take it to the ...

Hey Skipper,

How did you go?

You could get away with it for a while, depending on how much the others have been stressed. Overtightening with a rattle gun kills them... Piece of mind is worth a lot to me - I know what I would do and I think you do too.

Cheers

as above, if they have been regularly overtightened (most are) running on only 5 will increase the load on all the others which could be in similar state to the one that snapped.

So here I am funding a 4x4 project on a students budget (yeah i know, pushing shit up hill). I’ve already purchased a 2” lift kit, and was thinking ...
