If you have to jack it up, mark driveshaft and tyre, rotate the wheel one complete revolution and count the tailshaft turns. You will see the difference between those ratios. Please expand on how the above method helps on finding the actual ratio...... I do agree the OP should pull the centre and ...

If cv's and axles are out i assume you're not driving it right now? you're only ten minutes and a few bolts away from having the centre out and ratio counted.

Next thing i'm after (454 in my shed now :D ) is a manual bellhousing, clutch, flywheel to suit the BBC. I'm away on hols atm, back home tomorrow, so will call a few of the contacts supplied and see what they have. i'm guessing an importer who does engines might have a few bell housings lying around ...

Re: 2nd Hand Chevy parts dealers - Oz or US
Just off gumtree, off a bloke in central coast. From what im reading all gen vi 454 are 4 bolt mains - as they were a truck motor, and didnt come out in any cars. For supercharging 4 bolt would ease your mind at least.

Re: 2nd Hand Chevy parts dealers - Oz or US
Thanks guys. I'm going up to see Stools troll this week - throw the tape measure over it and my ute and see how big a headache it's going to be. I've seen (on the internet, where everything is true  ) a few 40's and 45's with the big block, can't recall a 75 with one though. I have a 98 ...

Re: 2nd Hand Chevy parts dealers - Oz or US
LS1/2. Light and easy! Electrical is nothing to worry about. Killalux will organise you a loom for very little $. $700 from memory. Then no gas, gas certs etc. One day you will sell the car and a LS1 would be an easier sell, LS1 would be easier sell - from what i'm seeing no one is paying what a ...

Re: 2nd Hand Chevy parts dealers - Oz or US
I think I would like to deal with the electrical gremlins that would come about by using an LS conversion than trying to get the carb related emission control systems that would come with a 1996 model engine any day of the week. Are you sure the 1996 454s are still carby, and not just throttle body ...

Re: 2nd Hand Chevy parts dealers - Oz or US
That's well out of my budget for this conversion. I will spend around $2000 - 2500 for a running stock motor, and later on rebuild it if needed. LS1's can also be had at this price. I had seriously though about the LS1's - but i would like to get away from the whole electrical side of it - looking ...

Re: 2nd Hand Chevy parts dealers - Oz or US
There are a few 454's around that i have found on the internet in oz 4wds. I spoke to the RMS (NSW) tech department, and he has informed me running straight LPG i could run any year model engine, OR running petrol the engine needs to come out of a car with the same emissions ADR's as my ute - and ...

Re: 2nd Hand Chevy parts dealers - Oz or US
Sorry guys - What I am after is a 454 Big Block running with bolt ons (i didn't want to write that specifically because i already have in my wanted ad) which i will use for the conversion, get the rest of the conversion sorted, engineered, back on the road, then rebuild the engine later on, so i ...

Not sure if this is Tech enough, or if it belongs in General Chit Chat :? I have already posted a wanted ad for an engine in case anyone has one, this is more of a general enquiry for where to get one from. Just want to know of any good places to source 2nd chev engines, and parts and accessories ...

SOA FZJ75 weak power steering
Howdy all, I SOA'd my ute a couple of years ago - and since done the power steering is weak when sitting perfectly still - most road surfaces it won't turn the wheels - as soon as you move it turns no worries. When 4wding this becomes very annoying as i can't move my wheels unless moving. My setup ...

Re: Ls1 into 75 cruiser info
I guess if i'm going to spend some decent coin, i'm liking the idea of an ls1 producing good power stock, as opposed to getting more out of the 1FZ, and from some little reading i have done it seems you can get more out of the ls1's with out too much work, if for some reason i want more grunt, which ...

Re: Aquired a HJ61RG, found some 'isses' on way home.
In my old FJ45 i replaced the idler gear - the 2-gear single piece gear - this was 12-13 years ago - by removing the floor pan (big suckers on the pre 80 models?? mine was 79') and leaving the gearbox in, and removing the transfer. i had a mate help me install it. Drove it from Ulladulla (NSW South ...

Re: difference between 40 & later 70 PTO gear?
The bolt patterns changed during the 40 series era - the PTO cover has 6 bolts - 1 top, 1 bottom, and 2 each side. From memory one pattern has the side bolts level, the other they are offset to each other a little. Not sure which one will relate to the 70 series.

Re: Ls1 into 75 cruiser info
Yeah i've been looking at some of the ls1-80series in there, i'm not up to date with chassis and bracket differences between the 75 and the 80, but they have been done and do fit, from what i have seen. Using Marks kit it looks like $5000 minimum, and up from there. Both my commo and 75 have gas ...

Hi Guys, Long time between posts... I've only recently fitted lockrights front and rear to my FZJ75 Cruiser ute - awesome out bush, steering i think is heavier, but i never had my ute out with out them (had diferent diff ratios for ages). Also would someone have the axle lengths for the short side axle for 60's and 40's? i can then measure mine / check spline count and have a better idea what to look for.
Any info would be great.
Cheers,
Rob

Rear diff FZJ75 1996 rear disc - compatible diffs??
Howdy, I've recently sheared the axle studs on the drivers side, the axle starting coming out while driving, and has worn a groove into the axle, and more than likely may have worn the stub axle. So i need a DS axle, the hub i can replace the studs and get the dowels machined out one size bigger ...

Howdy all, I'll admit i didn't search, but i promise i will later ;) I'm looking at building a 3.5" or 4" Rollbar for my ute, and wondering what wall thickness material peolpe have used with pipe around that size?? I'm thinking either 2.6 or 3.2mm, more so to reduce weight. even the 2.6 is 6.3kg/m ...
