It might change the noise out the back if you change it all. Probably sound like a louder tractor :?:

The only way to get a B motor to sound good is probably to replace it with a v8. It's an old 4 cyl diesel. What were you expecting?

Ummm i think it's user error, you should be moving when you try to change between 2 & 4wd.(not hi to low) and don't use the clutch, just back off the accelerater and shift when there is little or no load on the transfer. It would probably help if both hubs were locked in. You only tried to engage ...

I believe older 40's just used an extra low 1st gear, instead of a transfer box.

This will only work if you have lockers, preferably front and rear for maximum effect.

I use one of these (or a very similar model). on my 3B with a turbo. does a great job. filters last for ages and i've never seen any dust on the outlet side of things. They do take up a fair bit of room though.

Yeah, TruckBits down here (just out of Dandenong), are a fair bit cheaper than $90.

Could a different oil pressure switch fix this?

Mine did/does exactly the same thing BJ. I now run my engine at a fast idle when off road or the engines hot.
This stops (or seems to stop)the oil pressure dropping so low and shutting down the engine. Also a heavier oil in summer helps.

Hey i think this might be a Toyota "factory option". My Bj42 has the same problem, I extended my crankcase breather pipe into the rails and the hot/oily air seemed to help break up the mud, sand and crap. Enough at least to get most out anyway.

Hey all, I've got a 3B and turbo in my bj42 and to be honest i wouldn't drive any diesel without a turbo. My "new" engine cost less than $800 had done 320,000+ kms .My daily driver for months with out any problems. One of the few parts of my truck not worn out or leaking :?

Cheapest option ...

X2 Turbo 3b

Dont need no electric's to run.
Dont need no fancy glow start system (12volts and glow plugs is all you need)
Dont need no edic, just an old choke cable.

If ya dont need no space for camping gear, esky, or almost anything else then go for gas.

Do need a bit more time to get anyware ...

mq 24volt to 12volt

Asking for a mate, also asked in auto elec.

Whats involved in converting an MQ/MK 24volt diesel into 12 volt?

He has two trucks one is 12v and other is 24v. so should have all necessary parts (starter, alternator etc). How big a job is it?

Cheers Adam

Hey guys.
Yeah just had similar problems when i changed over engines. Didn't really fix it(yet) just removed the connecting rod and put in a choke style cable to shut down the motor/shut off fuel. Has the added bonus of being an immobiliser
:)
