Re: King of the Hammers 2011 trip planning / JV info

Good luck Ben. You've got a much greater chance with a car you know how to drive, and having the time to go over it with a fine tooth comb. I can't believe how late some of the guys are leaving it to get cars finished, the Torchmate buggy for example springs to mind.

Re: A confused rock crawler: rally time!

What do you do for a job mate to get all the time off? Do you normally fly economy or business? The novelty would wear off pretty damn quick having to fly economy over there each time.

I never bothered to get mine engineered, mainly cause I have a company car, so didn't need to bother driving it onroad. I think I only drove it a few kays onroad once it was sas'd.

I may be legal, but I suspect it'd be more hassle then it's worth here in QLD to do. There used to be a black swb ...

Mine had dual transfers, with a 1litre sierra transfer as the 2nd case. I had lux diffs with 5.29 gears. It had plenty of gearing, i ran 35's most of the time, but 37's were fine too. Double low 2nd gear was probably the most used gear offroad, and i'd just put the sierra case in high and leave the ...

OME Suspension lift
2 inch bodylift
Cut guards
F+R lockers
Toyota CV conversion
TT Undertaker or OTT Kicker 2
31-32's

that's what i'd be doing. Would be far cheaper than a SAS too and drive better as well

Sounds like a nice idea, the only problem I see is what if the owners break their vehicles during their 'own' time? Obviously they'd need to be fixed to compete/be used by the public on weekends, but what if the owner can't stump up the cash that week to pay for a new set of axles or whatever? It ...

In regards to the travel ramp, if you lift the front left off the ground is that then your finishing point? Because it didnt look like you had much left in "track" to keep all wheels on the ground!

Mine was great when it had 30's and a rear locker. once i went to 32's with heavy rims and tried harder tracks it'd break cv's and rear axles on command almost.

I'd suggest getting a swb model, run the OME lift, and get some 30's or 31's under it. A rear locker makes a world of difference too

I was watching the Australiasian Safari dvd last night, and they showed the BF Goodridge guys changing tires. They had a setup I'd never seen before. if you really want power in a sierra, put a rotary in it. it'll fit easy, and big power is possible.
