Re: Adjusting a boost compensator

Out of interest what manifold are you guys running? I have a shite tube style manifold which when it was built got made for a petrol turbo not a diesel and has pretty large tube on it.

A log style manifold would provide faster exhaust gas speeds and therefor spool the turbo faster would it not?

Re: Adjusting a boost compensator

Yeah righto thanks for that, I don't think I can get to much more fuel out of the max fuel screw. Might look at dropping a compressor housing size, what do you guys think of the 2876? Do you think it's to large to expect what I'm after? Saying I don't think my pump has had as much work done to it as ...

Re: Adjusting a boost compensator

when does it boost what rpm how many psi, did he do any thing else to the pump? Needs decent load to boost, but probly 1500rpm I would say and will make 25psi if I let it but its not doing it till higher in the rev range, once at speed will make 25psi by 2800rpm. Just trying to get it to spool a ...

Re: Adjusting a boost compensator

Yeah have spoken with the guy who built the pump, was adjusted the right way.

He doesnt charge an arm and leg like a lot of 4wd workshops as he mainly does earth moving gear etc

But he has a few other tapers for me to try, so its trial and error as you said.

Adjusting a boost compensator

Righto, trying to get the turbo to spool lower in the rev range, off boost fuel does not seem to be enough to spool it where I want it. Its a Gt2876 with a 12mm head once on boost fuel kicks in it takes off and is making good boost, but yeah just want the process to begin earlier. Have removed the ...

Re: 4.2 TD GU running rough, white smoke

white smoke is often due to faulty IP ie incorrect injection timing. check for fuel line blockages including the little filter in the IP. if its sucking enough air into the fuel lines it can also do it. fit clear fuel hose on the IP outlet and look for bubbles. if the pump has been worked on it may ...

They only take like 200-300mls of oil in the first place, so dont know if you have over filled it.

I seen a lot of highmounts with the same issues your describing, dont think its to much to worry about.

Find the ign relay and manually earth it out, I know the Holden wiring systems control ign via the earth.

Gonna get you going in the right direction, you have power to everything else?

Re: boost compensators

So to KB and tweake, what do you guys think in terms of loosing much off the line pull with a comp fitted?

Running a gt2876 so I imagine it will spool pretty fast, shutting the comp off early and not doing a whole lot, this is my issue with getting one fitted.

Re: boost compensators

About to get a 12mm pump built for my patrol, and am tossing up with getting a comp built onto it or not, the car should come onto boost fast, saying that I cant see the comp doing a whole lot. Is it still worthwhile having it fitted up? I guess the power will come on faster with out a comp as I ...

Just check the intake pipework to clear it up. I'm tipping your turbo is pumping oil I to your motor if you don't have a restrictor

Re: td42 need help or suggestions

You say you have a garret ball bearing turbo, like others have said oil will run your engine, are you running an oil restrictor for your turbo? The ball bearing turbos only need a 1mm yes 1mm hole to feed them oil, if you are not im tipping you have blown a oil seal on your compressor housing and ...

Lift pump fitment on a turbo diesel

Hey fellas, The old pump seems to be struggling to make the figures that I am after coughs and farts and takes its time to make boost and doesn't seem to be making much with 15psi max at a fairly highish rev range ( TD42, GT2876 turbo) How much of a difference has fitting a lift pump made to other ...

They all have piston oil squirters, even the GQ motors so count that out.

TD42T have slightly different pistons i think larger gudeon pins also slightly larger rods.

Try get the TD42T motor, even if it just just for the fuel pump, then your able to get a bit more poke out of the old girl :D

If that model car out with no airbag from factory you will need that steering wheel and then you can go about looking at getting it passed.

Have seen it done with a Disco, we swapped the wheel over to the model with out vicroads kicked up a bit of stink but it was passed in the end.

It can be done yes, but as the other guy said the legality of it may be an issue.

Im sure if you spoke to an engineer firstly they would realise its the same chassis and made by the same people you may not have any issues.

But yeah best to speak to an engineer first.
