PTO mk/mq

Post by Sterlo »

Hey guys does anyone know where i can get a PTO for a MQ/MK g/box? I dont want a winch just the right angle drive from the g/box. I live on a property and think the old turbo diesel would be good for running an irrigation pump. Plus other PTO driven things

Any info appreciated

I'd rather have a PTO to mate a hydro pump for the winch for a GQ t-case and cannot find one.......................

Uhhm does it look anything like the one below ?

I was told that is was from an MQ diesel, but i know SFA about nissans.

The gear is approx 28mm ID with 28 splines, the mounting holes are 7cm apart

This and a set of shafts to suit are for sale. I was searching info on nissan PTO's when i stumbled on this thread :-)
I was going to list on Fleebay but I'm open to offers (''). PM me for more details about the shafts etc

Cheers

Daryl

Talking on www.rmp-o.com the front PTO on a nissan box comes out of the gearbox like the above photo. Most rear come of the transfer like mine. Mine is unique as it also runs a front PTO of the transfer

Yea ive got the same PTO on a 4spd, could be put on a 5spd as the transfer is the same - would just need a longer shaft to the winch - have got a 5spd in another MK so i can confirm.

So does mine...

All the pictures you need to see...

I have 3 of them for the MQ/MK 4spd & 5spd. They were common on the Safari which is a Japanese Patrol. New Zealand got tons of Safari imports, hence I got all 3 of my PTO's out of NZ. Junkyards in NZ have them or try Trademe.com You just have to know who to ask, how to ask and where to look.

Rear PTO boxes can be found for the MQ/MK also but only on Fire trucks. It could be bolted on a normal MQ/MK though to run a rear PTO winch or hyd. pump or whatever.

Oh ya...plenty of GQ PTO boxes in NZ too....just have to know where to look.

Does any one know how the gear connects to the shaft inside the transfer case ?

I have one of these winches and adapters that go on the back of the transfer case, but am stumped on how the gear that comes with the winch connects to the main shaft, yes the spline is right, but the gear on the main shaft takes up the whole spline.

Or do i have the wrong transfer case ? Like i might have mq and need mk ?
any helpful links or pics, would be much appreciated.

thanks ;)

The PTO box you pictured and the one Swerve shows is a rear PTO box, not made by Nissan. Also note that the pictures Swerve posted are of the old G60 3spd tranny and transfer not the MQ/MK 4sp/5spd.

I am not really clear on what you are asking...

The rear PTO box pictured in this thread is an Aussie made box. There is a chain drive inside the box that runs the offset PTO shaft. Very similar to the PTO boxes that were put on old Willies Jeeps in the 40's/50's. I am guessing you have a PTO box like Swerve which is for a G60 not an MQ/MK.

Nice ! Plan to sell one of them ? A friend of mine is looking for one to run a hydro pump for his winch off it.

When you pull the back of the transfer off (carefull not to drop the rollers!) you need to undo the nut - its really tight, then slide the gear out (remember which side faced out and mark it) the gear needs to have the shoulder machined off of the back of it so that the rear surface is flush with the edge of the teeth, then there is the part which which sitting seperate in your picture ontop the pto - it slides on the shaft behind the gear where the shoulder was and the nut goes back on, the outside of this part fits inside large spline on your pto box when the pto is engaged. - if you can picture all that!

Another thing make sure the roller bearing inside the pto box is in good nick - it supports the g/box output shaft and if its stuffed you will bugger transfer cases.
